Question 2001 jaguar xk8

I have a problem. I need a new engine. I want to find a rebuild kit, but I haven't had any luck. I was told that I could replace the Jaguar engine with a small block Chevy 350, but I don't know if I will need any extra parts to make that work. uuuuggghhh!!!!!

A good used engine will bolt into your car.

XJ8 (1999 to 2003) or XK8 (1999 to 2002) will drop in with NO mods required.

Need a new engine.................a drastic solution, so what's the problem with it?

Used Jaguar values will be very different in the US than they here in the UK but putting another manufacturer engine in has still got to reduce the value and make it more difficult to sell.

or, could he get a used Lincoln LS 3.9 which is virtually identical to the AJV8? Gotta be cheaper.

You can find a used Jag engine for $1500. That would be the easiest thing to do. Putting in anything else is going to cost more than that because of all of the mods required.

Check Car-Part.com which is a website that salvage yards all over the country subscribe to.

Put your car's description in, and your geographic location. You'd be surprised how many used engines are available.

Get on the phone and offer them less than the posted price--and see if they'll bite on your offer. I've found some will deal with you.

If you go that route, just make sure the engine has the correct metal secondary camshaft tensioners, metal thermostat housing and metal impeller water pump before installing.

It ran hot and now there's an awful knocking sound in the engine.

Replace the engine with an used one.

I would challenge the comment above about car-parts '. . . some will deal with you'.

They will ALL deal with you.

Parts sitting in their inventory have no value. They will sell to move.

With replacement engines available at the sort of prices quoted in earlier replies, I probably wouldn't consider a rebuild. Parts prices mount up very quickly and with additional machining if the heads are warped is likely to top replacement engine cost and then some.

Out of curiosity alone, I'd be partially stripping it down to determine exactly what damage has been done with the overheating. It may not be as bad as you think.

Before going any further, if you're not sure what the 'knocking' is, post a video or sound clip.

I'll say again, before you grab "any" AJV8 there is some research to be done about the matchup with your tranny. I have read from several sources that the tranny/engine match IS important and can be a problem.
