2001 XKR front end clunk
Need some advice--My 2001 XKR makes a "clunk" sound when I roll over uneven payment. I have attached pic of the upper wishbone bushings and the lower shock bushing. The wishbone bushings look ok--but without disconnecting the ball joint I cannot determine if there is movement. Car has 78K miles but the bushings are OEM and 13 years old.
The pic of the lower shock bushing clearly shows disintegration. Could this be my clunking problem. I have found these bushing online--Do they need to be pressed in or can I replace myself.
Lastly, I have found a few places that sell the wishbone bushings, please advise what company (in the US--I dont want to pay shipping and VAT from UK) you would recommend.
thanks
Gary

see your lower shock bushing that deteriorated? Now look all the way up the shock at the upper. Damn thats things collapsed!!!! normal for age regardless of mileage. And while youre doing upper mounts shock come out. So Ide replace shocks at same time and will included new bushings(I dont remember them seperatly) and do the upper a arm bushings too! Damn might as well do the lower a arms bushings too while apart and another big knocker is the sway bar mounts bushings(drive slow and rock the car side to side with the wheel) yeah that rocking knock is sway bar being noisy. Then be sure to get it all aligned when done

I'll make a wager...
A very good chance that it's the sway bar bushings, as these go out very frequently.
It's also a pretty easy fix.
I ordered replacement bushings from my local NAPA store, and they were too large in diameter. A quick slice of a knife to make smaller, and they work perfect.
I say this so instead of ordering something special order, many auto parts stores have generic sway bar bushings that you could probably customize and save a lot of time and money.

I replaced my upper mounts a week ago, as well as pressed in new bushings on the lower. One thing I hadn't seen or heard much before hand was there are spring assister in the rubber gaitor, these were fairly well deteriorated (2002 xkr/44k miles) so these should be ordered also and replaced... you don't want to have to go thru spring re-compression again!
