My 2001 XKR quit on me today. Drove it to work fine, drove it home fine (about a 20 minute drive). Was home for about 15 minutes and then went to leave again, car started, backed down the drive way but no throttle response and stalled when I gave it any. Barely idled it back up the driveway before it quit. Was NOT in limp mode. Would not start at all after that. Cranks fine.
Other symptoms/diagnosis so far
1. No codes
2. Throttle position tracks normally on autoenginuity
3. Intertia switch shows "inactive" on autoenginuity ... which I think means normal or in electrical terms closed.
4. Fuel Pump Relay 1 shows "energized" and Fuel Pump Relay 1 Monitor shows "off" on autoenginuity (not sure what those mean)
5. No fuel pressure (pushed schrader valve and nothing comes out, even with ignition on)
6. In the past week it has twice been more difficult than usual to start cold, which is uncommon. When this happened basically it did not start on the first crank, but started on the second and ran normally. Maybe a red herring and not worth commenting on if not for the other failure.
7. Checked Fuel pump fuses and swapped relays with 2 other relays, no change.
8. Had about 1/8th of a tank when this happened. Added 4 gallons of fuel, no change.
Anyway I believe it is a fuel pump or regulator problem of some sort. What is troubling is since the XKR has two fuel pumps, even if one failed wouldn't the other still run the car at idle/low speed?
Also I was thinking of pulling the fuel pump relays and momentarily jumpering pins 3 and 5 on the see if they turn on. That won't hurt anything will it?
Any help or ideas would be appreciated. FWIW car has 101k miles and no known problems.

Yes the XKR has 2 fuel pumps but one may have been dead for awhile and you won't notice it and it doesn't flag a code. So once the 2nd one died that was it. I'd suggest doing the jumper pins test to see if you can hear them spool up.

Both of my pumps failed over winter storage years ago, and I had them replaced.
After that, I installed 2 pushbuttons bridging the terminals as described above so I could periodically "exercise" the pumps during winter storage:

Pull the fuel pump #1 relay out of the car and try to start the car 6 times.
The car will then start on fuel pump #2 IF fuel pump #2 is still good (which is unknown at this point). This is the way to activate the switchover to fuel pump #2 without jumpering any relays.

Thanks. I tried to start it 6 times, still nothing. Then I bridged the relay terminals on both of them and didn't hear a thing so it is a safe bet it is both fuel pumps.
Amyway I guess I will be pulling the tank this weekend.

The pumps are probably bad. however the pumps are very quiet when running, and you must be in a quiet place to hear them.Originally Posted by auburn2
