Default 2003 XK door locking causes alarm

Have any of you seen this? If i lock the door using the key, it sets off the alarm and/or the door cycles from lock to unlock several times.
If I unlock it using the key, the alarm shuts off. Cant try using the remote as this car does not have a working remote.
All of the switches in the drivers door latch are working correctly and none sticking on or off.
Any ideas?
Thanks

The locks sluggishly cycling between lock and unlock is a sign of a bad battery - check that first.

^^^^^^ This ! ^^^^^^^^

before I started using a NOCO Genius 5 battery tender my door would occasionally do the same thing.

after the battery tender, never.:

many electrical gremlins can be banished by using a battery tender.

just the slightest resistance in our electrical circuits due to age, moisture, or corrosion, will drop the voltage enough to to cause these mysterious electrical anomalies.

Well, I wish it was the battery. The car is on a battery tender and the battery is fully charged.
Today, I programmed a remote and the same results as using a key. About one out of ten times, it would lock without cycling and no alarm.
The rest of the time, it would cycle either locking or unlocking and the alarm would go off if it cycled when being locked.
Any more ideas? This car has had several electrical gremlins that I have been working through thanks to an owner that got in over his head previously and performed stupid repairs.
Thanks

If it isn't the battery, then it does sound like you still have a problem with one of the door latch switches - the alarm thinks something is open, or some switches are out of sync. Have you checked the passenger side switches? What about the boot lid switch?

The SLM has an error code
It says "SCP vehicle speed signal- invalid or missing message".

Any ideas what this is or where this signal comes from?
Thanks

Okay, I compared all of the inputs to the Security module to inputs from another XK. The only difference found was that on the one with no alarm and cycling back and forth, the passenger door showed locked versus unlocked on the car with the problem.
When i manually locked the passenger door and then locked the drivers door with the key, no issues of cycling or any alarm.
However, with the passenger door locked, if I unlock the drivers door, the drivers door cycles back and forth a couple of times between lock and unlock.
So, should the passenger door lock and unlock automatically when the drivers door is unlocked with the key? If so, what would cause it not to do so?
Thanks

I can’t speak to the 2003 and later years, but on my 2002 XKR, the owners manual(s) illustrate the operation of the door locks with the keys and with the fob extensively. If you don’t have your 2003 owners manual(s) I believe they are available for download on the forum.

Does the passenger door lock and unlock when you use the driver's door handle to lock/unlock? Do the doors both lock when you drive away? Can you open/close the passenger's window from the driver's side window switches?

Answer that and you will have some good clues as to what is going wrong before randomly guessing.

The passenger door does not lock or unlock using the key in the drivers door or the remote(by clicking unlock twice).
It does not lock by driving.
The only way to lock or unlock the passenger door is manually.
My scanner shows all the information on the passenger door and the window glass action is correct.
Door latch maybe?

Can you open/close the passenger's window from the driver's side window switches?

Does the driver's inside door handle lock/unlock the passenger door?

@dibbit The drivers door window switches control the window correctly. The drivers inside door handle does not lock or unlock the passenger side lock

So the driver's door module and passenger's door module are communicating no problem, that means the only thing left is that door latch unfortunately - sounds like the solenoid switch/wiring has failed, or maybe even the solenoid itself. I think I would take the door card off and see what you can test with your multimeter. You are looking for the unlock/lock pulse from the door module.

Thanks. I was looking at some used ones on ebay and some question came up about whether or not the car has a "deadlocking function". Never heard of this. Is it common? What is it?

On my European spec car, the doors lock in two stages. First push of the remote lock button locks normally, the second button deadlocks the doors (i.e. can't be opened by the handle inside).

You also shouldn't rule out the passenger door module - it's possible that it isn't sending the lock/unlock pulse to the lock - it's worth checking that before replacing the lock.

@dibbit THanks for the explanation on the deadlocking function. I will be unavailable to do any more checking for about a week. Thank I will look into this again.

Many thanks to all who tried to help and guide me in the right direction. After replacing both driver and passenger door latches and the drivers door module, the doors, locks and windows all work correctly with both a remote and the key.
Only 65,000 miles on this car and so many stupid things done by someone who should never be allowed to pick up tools much less try electrical repairs..
Thanks again
