Default ABS control Module change??

Hi gang,
In my guest to replace my former XK8, one potential unit has been listed as waiting to have an "ABS module being replaced". Is this a common problem, does it happen regularly, and is it something I should check to make sure it has been done correctly, and if so, how?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Did not see this referenced in a quick run thru of frankc's lengthy explanation.

I think, but please correct me if I am wrong.. I am new to XK8's myself.... The capacitors in the ABS and ECU/PCM units go bad, they just corrode from the inside. Expensive to replace with new units, cheaper to repair. As long as your ABS light is not on, there is no OBDII error for it than the unit should be working.

This was and is a common issue in the earlier XK8/XKR models. It does not seem to plague the later models....

This problem is listed in the how to sticky, not hard to do but you do need a bit of patience, I did mine around two years back going of this information, working perfectly ever since 😊👍

Probably the hardest part is removing the module if you can use a soldering iron.

I pulled out my module and sent it to a firm in CA for a $100 repair. It has worked fine ever since, which is several years.

You might want to check the date of the replacement. If early and still under factory warranty, it could be a dealer "throwing parts at a problem" and not likely a concern...

There has been some discussion about how to remove the ABS module, whether or not you have to disconnect brake lines for access.
After that, it's not difficult. You need to split it open, solder two connections, and seal it closed.
I disconnected the brake lines so as not to risk damaging them. You then need to bleed the brakes.
I did mine a year ago and all is well.

We don't even know what MY the car is!!!
Let's guess at what module is needed for replacement if that is necessary.
