I have not smoked since 1975 and my wife has never smoked. The ash tray in my XK8 is therefore rather useless except for the ability to use the cigarette lighter as a power source for phone , sat-nav etc.

Has anybody come up with a nice mod/alternate use for the ash tray ? I searched the forum but didn't find anything

Replacing what is there is not easy due to odd shape. I found that my ELM-327 adapter fits in the existing tray pretty well.




Lighter is in glove box now - replaced by dual USB charger like this

 

Another vote for coin storage....

 

I have the exact same ELM-327 and I already have a dual USB outlet in the cig lighter socket

I figured for sure that someone here would have some nifty home made mod for holding a cell phone or an ejector seat or something

 

I rest my iPhone in it horizontally - it is just the right size.

 

My ashtray always holds a packet of mints. I stopped smoking in 1985 quite easily but ever since then I can't kick the mint habit.

I use the Ash Tray as my secret storage place for my Valet Key....Easy to get to when you pull up to the Valet Stand.....! The lighter socket is my "power" for the Radar Detector.....Great things are found under the lid!
