Don't you have "Door open" indication on the dash?

Classic sign of a failing battery. How old is yours?

Do the window reset procedure first. If that does not fix the issue, your battery may be on its last legs.

It's likely that one of the microswitches in the door latch assembly has failed. I replaced mine a few months ago and bought aftermarket switches for about $10.00 each and it needed to be modified. There are helpful articles on this forum but it is not a fun job.

With engine running (to save your possible bad battery) and door closed, move window down until it stops, remain down button pushed until a minor click is heard. Then move window up again keep switch pushed after window is fully closed until you hear the click.
Then it should work again. Do same for other side window.

It was caused by disconnecting the battery, or if it was not disconnected, by voltage drop during cranking (then needs new battery)

Good luck

Exactly this... Hopefully ya didn't get a $150battery already.

Usually I will sit in the car, engine running (stereo off, lol) and runn both windows at the same time upp,,, wait for clicks,,,, down,,, wait for clicks,,, and repeat 2 or 3 times. This sets the up and down limits on the windows to jus right. Pretty ingenuously I have always thought. Wish the XJS was like this, haha. But nope. A bit more painful.

Battery store is correct. New batteries are crap. BUT, if you peel the label off "maintenance free" batteries you'll see the caps that can be pried off to add distilled water. Do that once a year and they'll likely last longer. Also use a Battery Tender or other fully automatic maintainer if not used for more than a week.

What he said.

Ooops. I see you already solved it. My batter lasted about that long too and I replaced it for the same reason. We got our money's worth out of the battery.
