battery draining
Hello from New Member. I currently own a 97 XK8, and had a problem with taillight burning out. When I pulled the taillight assemblies out to replace bulbs, I found the bulbs getting VERY hot. After reading your post, I added a ground wire to each assembly, and connected to the body where the assembly screws to the body. I haven't had anymore bulbs burn out, but I am having a problem with my battery dying. I don't know if this is a totally separate issue, or related to installing the ground wires. Has anyone had a similar issue?
When running, the amp gauge shows normal, so it seems the battery is charging fine when running. When turning the key to start, the battery shows a lower than normal charge. Could adding the ground wires have any detrimental effect on the battery?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

nujagowner, I've moved your post to its own thread vice on the tail end of an old resolved thread.
How old is the battery in the car? Most batteries have 3 to 5 years worth of life, so I would take the car to an Advance Auto or similar place and have the battery & charging system tested.

Search the forum for CTEK BATTERY MAINTAINER. Us XK8/R - XK/R owners know the problems of low-use vehicles and heavy drain electronics.
By hooking up a battery maintainer, the battery will always have a 100% full charge, no matter how long it sat before use.
If not THE problem you're currently having, it will help you diagnose your NEW problem. It's also a really good thing to have, that maintainer. You'll be happy you got one.
