Concluding comments:

yes, the pros are in a hurry. The left bank had a couple of places where the bolts were not completely contained by the gasket. The right bank was so tightly torqued down that I had serious difficulty breaking them free. Surprised the cam cover did not crack. When I removed the cam cover, 6 of the “captive” bolts fell out - they were on the wrong side of the gasket! Now all is good, just waiting for the sealant to set then we go play again. Thank you all.

Doh! Why do 'they' think a breaker bar is the tool to stop leaks... IIRC it's 10Nm or so.

Well done on correcting the job that the 'pros' screwed up.

I'm studying up to do mine - Can you verify the Fel-Pro part number for the gasket set? Is it VS50724R ?

Best!

Fel-Pro VS 50724 R. Rock Auto $35 Canadian. Perfect fit. Only puzzle is one small O ring left over. I assume it is for the oil dipstick tube, not used.

Search under 2001 Lincoln LS. You will not find anything under Jaguar.

Thanks for the confirmation - A belated search shows this too. Amazon has it for a few bucks less money than rock-auto for me. Free shipping to WA state USA. N.B. One comment/review says that the kit does not include the VVT seals.

No VVT seals but again they are cheap at Rock Auto.

I did a bit of searching and now think that Mahle are the original manufacturer for the Jag OEM parts

I just bought the full gasket set for the 4.2 from Rock Auto, part number is VS50672, it includes the bolt and spark plugs o rings.
