Default Chance of green shower in cold weather?

My 97 jag ragtop sits quietly and humbly in the garage while the temperatures here in Virginia are in the single digits. So why do I ask about the green shower?

With my garage temp in the 30 degree range (up to 50 with the heater) I plan to lower the top to replace the rear subwoofers (6.5 shallow mount Earthquake).

I was wondering weather the chance of a green shower increases with the cold-thickened hydraulic fluid. In other words, there would seem to be more pressure in the lines when lowering the top.

I want to replace these speakers while the car in stuck inside, but I don't want to create a big problem.

Thoughts?

Lower the top manually. Found in your owner's handbook.

I don't know the affects of the cold on the hydraulic system but why take a chance on an one time lowering.

The '97 MY had the yellow hydraulic fluid that turned to jelly but the hoses that survive even that. Have you flushed the yellow stuff out for the green stuff?

I have only had the car since November, but the fluid looks green and clean,

Just do it, we all baby these cars to the point that we worry ourselves more than we enjoy the car. If you are destined to have the green shower better now than later when it will really ruin a good time cruzin with the top down.

I agree with Jandreu.

Hey Madbrad would you mind posting a quick review of how your new speakers sound when you have them installed? I'm always one to try to improve my audio systems and would love to hear.

Someday I hope one of us will find a high quality tweeter that will fit in the super shallow triangular space for the tweeters.

Thanks,

The pump has pressure control valves inside that will cause peak pressure to stay about the same as temperature varies. 50 degrees is fine; hose failure less likely there than at, say, 90 degrees.

Also, there are things you can do to improve your odds of avoiding a green shower; some in my sig. line below.

Thanks,
This is a link to the speakers I purchased. Seems like a perfect fit in that they are designed as shallow mount. I can't wait to get them in. I plan to try Gus' method which means I won't remove the rear seat seats. The JTIS and others suggest that the rear seats have to be removed, but I will go with Gus first. Outside temp is 17F. Garage temp is now 35 and rising. I should have this wrapped ( if everything goes perfectly) by early afternoon.

Thanks,
Just wrapped up the job and the speaker sound fantastic. Just say'n but the Earthquake shallow 6.5 subwoofer fits perfectly. Exact same size, same hole pattern. I did take some liberty with the wiring. I put spade connectors on the new speaker, added about a foot of 18g wire I had around the house and then clamped on the 22g gauge (hardly any to work with) coming out of the speaker box. Worked perfectly. I did use the old ring. Sounds awesome and I could not be happier. Only broke one thing which I will post shortly.
