Default Chassis Leg Rust

Hi,

After doing some investigating behind one of my rear wheels I've discovered some rust on the chassis leg, do you know if this is an MOT fail ?

best pic i could get without taking the wheel off again

They may fail the fuel lines as well from the picture. Get some rust converter on them followed by some waxoyl, Dinitrol is my fav though

Mine were rusty for a while and were not noticed by my MOT station, however any rust within 30cm of a suspension point should be a fail.

It can be an expensive job as the rear suspension/subframe diff etc needs to be removed to get good access.

See what is involved here. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...repair-149852/

If you plan to keep the car, now's the time to do it.

Yes...I'm afraid it is an MOT fail as my XK8 failed for the exact same thing in the Spring. Fortunately I was able to weld it myself...but it was very tricky due to the position and angles involved. Also, as it looks like the passenger (left) side..the pipes you can see clipped in place on the chassis member in the photos you took are petrol pipes...so extreme caution is needed here.

Hope it goes well for you.

Unless you have checked this already...if you are having welding done....it is well worth checking out BOTH front footwells for the dreaded XK8 double skin rust problem and also the rear floor corners of the footwell at each end of the rear seat which can rust through.

Well i guess i gotta add this to the list of many things to fix.

I've just got my car back yesterday from the body shop fixing the rear lower sill and painting one side of the car. Its booked in to do the floor panel next month.
