hey all,
Recently my 2002 XKR has been showing the will to switch the engine off whenever I stop at a light or something. The RPM gauge will wiggle around 500 RPM for a second then it'll balance back to normal. I felt it had to do with the spark plugs, but I let go and lived with that.

Yesterday while i was driving it the Check Engine light came on and "Restricted Performance" warning message was displayed for about a minute then disappeared, however, the Check Engine light remained on.

Any thoughts?

Take it to AutoZone and get the codes read. There are a number of things that can cause the check engine light to come on. Once you get the codes, post them and we'll be able to tell you more.

Could well be an air leak as any small sudden amount just swamps the fuel and engine cuts out. A cheap OBD tool with "live data" lets you look at LTFT per bank.

 

+1 on codes. For <$20, you can pick up a bluetooth scanner and the Torque Pro app for android - so far i am pleased with the operation and saves me from having to drive to several different Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts stores to find one who can read my Jag.

 

Alright guys, I got it scanned at autozone and i got 2 codes: PO172 & P1000
I went thru some relevant threads in the forum and I feel i have to tell you more about my issue: similar to others who had these codes, i'm also getting gas smells when i slam the pedal to the metal. additionally, i noticed the car not showing the will to switch gears (2nd to 3rd) at a couple of occasions.

This attachment should explain the codes. As for the Restricted performance it is telling you that it will not allow the car to go over 2500-3000rpm because you have a problem P0172, the P1000 is just a system check it is not part of the problem.
