I just had my fuel filter replaced after 86k miles and I cut it in half to see what it looked like. I was going to post a photo, but it looks EXACTLY like the one in the original post above. My stellar mechanic (Flying Circus in Durham, NC) didn't separate the labor they charged for replacing it (the transmission was serviced at the same time) but even if it costs $100 in labor and $10 for the part, I'd call that a bargain compared to a new fuel pump, etc. Remember - it's always the cheapskate who ends up paying the most in the long run. You don't have to be mad rich to own one of these, but they definitely were not designed to be owned by cheapskates!

 

I did mine about 10 months ago/2.5k miles ago. Mine also had the original filter which was clogged to high heavens. It took me all of 40 minutes to do the job. I could've done faster if I knew what I was doing in the first place.

It's a pretty easy job, but I recommend removing the left rear tire before doing it. It frees up a lot of space.

 

If the fuel line is rusty on the rear of the fuel filter, let a shop do the job, as it may require some heat from a torch to the fuel filter NUT to remove the rear fuel filter line, my old xk8 required that nut to be cherry red before it came loose, due to rust

 

open flame on a fuel line fitting ... now there's a recipe for success

 

I read a previous thread months ago that you can use a GM part, which I'm too lazy to go find and provide here, but I have an identical part sitting on my workbench from my Chevy dealer waiting to go in. If it's truly identical, then it works if you happen to be at said dealer for a couple parts for your Chevy truck as I was recently.

Good inspiration to add this to the list while the car is currently down for some light maintenance.

 

Yes, I can confirm that a GM part fits. I think I used one from an early 90's Firebird, but I can't recall for sure since it has been over a year. You can double check the part number at some place like RockAuto and then cross reference it. I save a few bucks that way.

I used an AC Delco GF652 on my '97.

 

I used the Fram G3727 fitted perfectly. Around $10 from Walmart or Advance Auto.

 

I forgot to mention, if your Jaguar is not feeling like it use to, the filter change will also help

 

replaced the fuel filter in mine yesterday - 133k on the car and filter looked to be original - nasty!!! now to get her out on the highway for some spirited driving

as you can see that nut at the end(rear fuel line towards rear of car) can be heated, as its very thick, but just enough to break the rear line loose, then work penetrating oil in, if your rear line is seized due to rust and thread locker.
