Default Codes help and hissy fit help

I've got the following codes along with a restricted performance message:
P0171
P0174
P1642
P1747
P0300
P1316

I'm expecting a new intake tube to arrive next week or so. That should take care of the first two codes, but what are the others?

Also, the other day, my car decided to have a hissy fit during my commute. It stopped revving, and I got the following messages: engine failsafe, asc unavailable, abs unavailable and gearbox failure. I stopped the car, turned it off and then on, I kept getting the same warnings. I couldn't put the car in drive. I could rev the car and hear it rev, but it wouldn't register in the dashboard rev meter. I turned off the engine and waited a few minutes. Everything went back to normal.

During that incident I got the P1642 and P174 codes.

As you already know P0171 & P0174 are lean conditions on both cylinder banks. The real question is why are they lean? Too much air or too little fuel are the two most obvious answers so working those tracks would be primary.

P0300 is random misfire and flows from the same lean condition with the added flagging of a possible injector or injector circuit problem as well as possible ECU problems.

P1313 is just an excessive emissions problem and possible catalytic damage but is flagged due to the misfire condition and in itself isn't worth worrying about as it is not a cause but an effect.

P1642 is a CAN circuit fault that just indicates a possible problem with one of the modules within the CAN circuit so you'd refer back to the modules listed in P0171, P0174, and P0300

P1747 denotes a circuit malfunction in pressure regulator #3 in the transmission which MAY be the result of the previous codes and the computers attempt to limit the speed and/or drivability of your car to avoid further damage.

I would concentrate on the initial problem you experienced as the flags should follow the chain of events as opposed to being in numerical order

I guess people absolutely refuse to read the TSBs in the large file area about these issues. I get frustrated having to post the same bulletins for this same fault.

Sorry for the rant but..........................

Your problem might not be the instpk CAN bus problem but you need to rule it out first.

Everyone in the Jaguar service industry is aware that there was a Service Action (S484) for the 2000MY X100/X308.

Do some investigation as to whether this action was performed and go from there.
You can ask a Jaguar Dealer service adviser if the Service Action was performed by doing a DDW search with your VIN.

I have calmed down now................... carry on.

The first two codes are happening due to my broken intake pipe. All codes haven't returned except for P0171 and P0174. I expect a new intake pipe to correct that.

Bob, I have to admit that I did not read the TSBs, however after reading it I noticed it said that all symptoms have to be met. They weren't. My a/c was still working and I was getting messages in the message center.

Interestingly, both times this happened, it was during when I had the Restricted Performance warning on and as soon as I plugged in my code reader. Also, the second time it happened I was able to get the car in gear. However, the car doesn't panic if I wait for the Restricted Performance warning to disappear.

I think you misread the TSB.
Do not REPLACE the instpk unless all the symptoms are present.

You still might have migrating solder causing an INTERMITTENT fault at this time and it has not yet progressed to complete failure.

I would still want to know if the Service Action has been performed.

My guess is that if it wasn't performed by the PO, then it never has been performed. A new Jag dealer has opened up after about a year without one on the island. Could they be able to take care of that TSB?

I would call with the VIN and ask if the Service Action was performed.

IF NO then I would pull the INSTPK out and have a look for myself as the dealer would probably charge for the inspection and solder rework. The TSB is NOT a RECALL so it would be 'on-you' to pay for the inspection/repair.

Just follow the procedure in the TSB just like the guy at the dealer would. (or find a good repair shop to follow the TSB for you)
