Dash overlays....
Has anyone used dash wood parts overlays? My 2002 XK8 has a couple of cracked panels. On Ebay there is a company that supplies laser cut overlays to cover the existing wood panels. The cost is moderate, certainly worth while if the result is a quality look. Has anyone used this product?

If you check out ebaymotors UK, there are several factory sets available. A good price for salvaged, good condition sets. I believe they fit USA cars as well.
I ordered a set in gloss black for my center button console and shifters inner surround to dress up the flat black plastic. Looks amazing!!

Here's a photo of my overlay I put on my center console. I had to have the seller make a custom set to fit my audio upgrade but it really looks good in person. I only ordered the shifter surround, coin tray surround, and center console pieces. Wanted the ac vents but they didn't make those. Attachment 45100

Looks to be the same overlay that I bought part of: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-do-%3B-51779/
Looks great, but feels rubbery. I wouldn't recommend it for a large panel, but if you want to do the HVAC and stereo surround, it works well.

Hey Keith--ever since your old post I have been thinking about getting the wood-look surrounds around the radio/AC area like you did. I was wondering how these were holding up so far. In particular, is there any curl up or do they still look as good as your original photo?
Thanks,
Doug

Doug, they look as good as new, maybe better since I can't even see the adhesive edge I could when I looked really closely before. They are still sticking down nicely with no movement whatsoever.
They do have a 3 year warranty if you are concerned.

Generally the wood isn't cracked, just the polyurethane is cracked. I have sanded the cracked area down to wood (do a large enough area to allow blending, and be careful not to sand the wood to avoid sanding away the aged color) and then layer on new poly (carefully re-stain the wood if necessary), then blend by polishing with the finest steel wool available.
