Door lock not opening
Hi Guys,
A little problem, my driver's door doesn't respond to the handles. So couldn't open driver's door from inside or outside. I found if I pulled the inside handle and operated the fob to unlock the car at the same time, all would return to normal.
So can someone tell me what's going on here as it keeps doing this?

A favourite aftermarket microswitch is OMRON D2SW-3L3MS.

Thanks Jon and Graham, I think you might be right. I think that something is happening when I open the door. There is a rattle like it''s locking itself. When I close the door the inner handle doesn't work, as if it's double locked the door. Would the micro switch be broken and causing spontaneous locking?

Mike,
Your scenario sounds very similar to my wife's 2006 XK8. Back in July/August, she was reporting an intermittent problem with being unable to open her drivers door using the interior door handle, essentially trapping her in the car (and scaring her) whenever that happened. What I discovered is that whenever this happened, if she pressed the unlock button on her key fob that interior door handle would immediately function normally again. Several members here on the forum advised me to spray a liberal portion of silicone lubricant into the door latch assembly from as many angles as I could reach it. I did that multiple times over several weeks, and the door latch assembly has been functioning normally again for the past few months. I did order a new D2SW-3L3MS microswitch from www.mouser.com back in August. If this problem returns, my buddy Wayne (cjd777) and I will take the door apart and replace that microswitch (my monster hands will not be able to get into those tight spaces so I will need Wayne's help on this job). These microswitches are tiny and fragile so it is not surprising that they eventually decide to get flaky. Good luck with your repair and let us know if a new microswitch indeed fixes your problem....

Thank you Jon, I think your wife had experienced exactly the same symptoms that I am having. Wow! It must have been very frightening for her, I can imagine.
It's a little cold here in the UK and I don't have a warm garage anymore since I moved, so I really like the idea of spraying some silicon in as a quick fix.
Failing that, I'll just have to strip it out when I have found a switch.
Thanks for all the help - really appreciate it. Mike
The RS code for the switch in the UK is 682-2146 which is equivalent to the D2SW- 3L3M

The door locks are often overlooked when it comes to lubrication. I found using WD40 on them first removes the old dried lubricant that is causing them to stick then spray what you desire. Note do both doors!
