Default Driveline Clunk

Today I just noticed a clunk that happens only when accelerating from a stop or near stop with about 40% throttle or more. No vibrations can be felt, it cannot be reproduced when the vehicle is already in motion and is not suspension-related. It seems to be coming from somewhere in the driveline. It almost sounds like it's beneath the driver's seat. No issues with the transmission. That shifts beautifully.

I'm thinking of either one of the U-joints for the half shafts, the driveshaft, or the jurid coupling. Last time I was underneath the car I noticed the rubber of the jurid coupling was beginning to dry rot, so that is my first suspect. When I get under the car, what other things should I check?

Things we did at the dealer years ago.
Not everything in your VIN range but things to consider.

Wow! Talk about archives. Thanks Motorcarman, I printed those out for reference. I'm getting quite a file of all the info found here on the forum. TM

Wow! Great info! I'll check those out when I'm under the car and if anything seems amiss, I will do the TSBs as well.

My 1999 does the same thing once it’s up to temperature, cold is fine.
Discovered my issue was RPM once it warmed up, idle speed would drop to around 550 and trans seemed to slip back into neutral. Accelerating it would slam into first and take off, ease into the throttle also worked fine. Putting my left foot on the brake and bringing the RPMs up to 650 then accelerating there was no clunk. I need to find a way to get my warm idle up 100 RPMs.

Easy job to adjust the accelerator cable, might even help with response.

Cable is tight….adjusting gets the cold idle too high.
