Default Ever go to a dismanteler for one thing and....

SO my Project 2001 XKR had some issues that I'm slowly working on. One of which was the transmissions conductor plate. Speed sensor was bad. Well I had fixed that and rebuilt the valve body however one of the sleeves went in tight and now 4th gear lags(slips) till in engages. Once engaged it doesn't slip. Knowing the previous owner was more into cosmetics than actual maintenance the engine had already been changed and the transmission to me questionable anyway. So I hunted for a lower mile unit from a wrecked car.

Well today I went and picked one up locally in Long Island NY. had around 80,000 on it and got it for $600 with converter. My xkr has 153,000 now and it was the original transmission(didn't mention it was three quarts low when I got it)

So as I pick up the transmission. I asked about the electronically controlled shocks. One of my lower bushing are bad and the shock itself bottoms out (car is also lowered). Well the car the transmission came out of was hit in the nose but otherwise pristine. $250 for both rear shocks with springs and shock mounts. The things looked brand new. Must have been garaged before accident. My traction control button also sticks a bit and the display for my heater control doesn't light up. Well an additional $50 for both along with entire cluster piece they are mounted into...ADDITIONALLY...I noticed it had the three gauges instead of the navigation...Hmmm $50 for gauges and the wood trim. Who knows I may use it! I felt like a kid in a candystore. What do you thing...Good deal or what?!

NEVER take a pocketful of cash to the wrecking yard. If you find your make/model of car like you did, it can turn into a buying frenzy as you found out.

Congrats on scoring the parts. Plenty of projects now.

Well done, You have more control than me, I would have asked for the whole thing and told them I would pile all I couldn't use in the car and they could have it for scrape. Now where could I hide another car the wife couldn't find.

Good times! Glad to hear and well done. I've done this before when I had a Porsche and some guy locally was parting out a shell he wanted gone. Basically for free. Fun afternoon!

There's a XK8 locally that has a couple parts I need that would work but it's too far away for me to get at lately.

Last time I went came back with a transmission, rear differential, full wood set and both front seats for parts.

I think you did pretty good.
