Front fogs, Heated seats, DSC control panel problem
Hi,
Can anyone help please? ... the ‘function on’ light is not working for the following;
Rear fog lights - the function button works (they turn on!) but the console indication light does not illuminate to inform that they are in fact ‘on’
Front fog lights - I am unable to turn them on
Heated seats - unable to turn them on - however I can hear a relay engage when I press either button
DSC - had a blown fuse - which has now been changed and the dash display read-out now informs me if I have turned them on or off; however the console indication light does not illuminate to inform me of the same.
Hazard function working - dash bulb has blown - currently on order
They were all working 2 weeks ago and then stopped when I went for a drive last week!
The ‘panel’ illumination is operating correctly.
I have:
Removed the console and cleaned all buttons (i did have a ‘sticky’ hazard switch - that has now been cured)
Disconnected the battery and carried out a re-set.
Checked all fuses and relays - swapped horn relay for fog relay to see if relay was faulty; relay not faulty
Checked the seat control modules are in place and connections are secure.
At one point during fault finding I could hear ‘2’ clicking relays each time I pressed the heated seat button; one from the dash and one from the seat - now I can only hear one which sounds as though it is coming from the dash.
I am not capable of interpreting electrical wiring diagrams - however I am really practical and any help would be very much appreciated.
many thanks
Alec
It’s these LEDs that don’t illuminate; along with the functionality issue with the front fogs and heated seats
I recently changed out the same switch panel on my ‘02 XKR due to the front fog lamps not illuminating. I don’t know if a new part replacement is available. Since the used eBay part was reasonably priced I decided to take a chance on one of them vs finding a new replacement.
the used part worked well enough, by that I mean the indicator lamp on the front fogs does not illuminate, but the lamps themselves do work fine. I can accept that as part of the lower price trade off vs having 100% functionality of the panel.
I’m hoping that a new panel wont be necessary; I cant seem to find the same combination of switches and the similar ones I am able to find seem over priced ...
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that someone says; “oh yes ... there’s a simple fix; flick this fuse, twist that relay, drive the car clockwise 30 times around your local village idiot, sacrifice your 7th child to the Jaguar gods .... and all will be solved”
I just looked up the record for my eBay panel purchase, it was only $34 with free shipping. That seemed to be a reasonable price. The panel was the one with all spaces filled, ie all options filled.
Barratt is showing the part as not available, but you might have better luck with another supplier.
in my case it was obvious the panel was defective as the fog lamp button was dead feeling, no normal springy feel.
My limited research revealed that generally the usual defect culprit is in the panel itself, so I’m doubting you will find a fault elsewhere. I was fearful of the disassembly process, not wanting to crack the shifter bezel, but it came off without incident despite my hamhandedness.
All the UK eBay options for my switch pack are far more expensive; I’ve found a company that will fix PCBs so will try them - I’ll keep you all posted!
Further update;
I sent the switch pack for testing to “Nova electronics” in Sheffield.
They have fully tested the PCB and reported no issues - and since I know that the functions work but the switch does not illuminate to indicate that it has engaged; this all points to a possible grounding problem; I’ve reviewed the forum and this could easily explain sudden ‘strange’ functions!
I’ve looked through the docs and identified that the grounding point for the centre pack is the Drivers door pillar (A frame).
This is really EXCITING news for me; the ONLY thing that changed from a one day ‘everything is working fine’ to the next day ‘not working’ - was me trying to remove an annoying ‘squeak’ that came from behind the driver RH air vent ... I’m assuming that this area is in close proximity to the grounding point!!! And it could very well be that my heavy handed approach to fixing the squeak has resulted in dislodging/affecting the grounding point?!
It’s dark now! So I will update on the condition of the point tomorrow; the PCB is due to be back with me for Monday so I hope to be able to fully update at that point.
I wonder if this symptom tells you anything. BOTH my front seat heater switches (red status lights) come on when I press just one of them. I get no hear but I hear a "click."
I am replacing the worn heater elements both top and bottom as I replace the leather on the driver seat only.
But could a wire be switched to get such an odd response? Suggestions welcome!
