Default Which fuel filter?

I want to change the fuel filter, both because I don't think it's ever been done, and because I think it may be contributing to my very intermittent "Restricted Performance" outlined here. It should be easy enough to do since it is in line rather than in tank. I checked out RockAuto.com and they have several listed:

Code:
PRONTO PF3144 {#DF9864} Engine VIN C $ 1.91

PENTIUS PFB33144 Engine VIN C $ 2.17

ACDELCO GF652 {#25055052,25171792,GF481} Replaces GF481	$ 9.22

FRAM G3727 In-Line Gasoline Filter $ 9.63

WIX 33481 $10.04

BECK/ARNLEY 0430909 $10.79

MANN WK6122 $13.92

MAHLE KL158 In-Line; Ht: 107mm; Outside Diameter: 55mm $17.25
It appears that any of these will fit, but why the range in price? Are the pricier ones really better filters? Anyone have a recommendation? I'm tempted to just go with either the AC Delco, Fram, or Wix since I'm familiar with the brands at least, but I thought I'd ask the collective XK8/XKR brain trust on this one, since you guys always steer me right

I like Mann filters, but that's just a holdover from my BMW days.

After a quick search (sometimes even senior members forget to do that, lol), I see I should cross reference a 1988 Chevy Pickup to save a bit, so that leads me to the Wix filter since I can pick one up locally and a quick cross-reference shows the same part number there, so I may just head to the parts store, unless someone can offer a compelling reason to spend more for one of the pricier filters.

EDIT: I see a vote for Mann. I think I can pick up one of those locally too, and they aren't much more, so that sounds good. I am thinking those "Pronto" filters must be absolute crap based on their price.

If I was ordering a filter, I replaced mine this spring with a AC/ Delco, I would by a pronto and Pentius just to cut it apart to see the difference if any, sometimes you never know. It could be the same filter.

I agree that would be interesting, and cut apart the original as well to compare all 3.

I fitted a Jaguar part, as you don't want any danger of lean mixture problems under acceleration!

Keith,

I hope this is a quality and not a money saving question! Compared with the cost of the fuel you've used, a gold plated replacement filter would be insignificant $$.

I'd also go for AC Delco, Fram or Wix as the leading brands. AC Delco are OE suppliers to many UK motor manufacturers so this one would tip the balance for me as it's likely to be the same as the one in a Jaguar box.

I don't know about the fuel filter but the Wix air filter is exactly the same as the oem Jag filter. Wix makes them for Jag.

I just purchased an oil and air filter from my local Jaguar Dealer last Friday.

The Air Filter came in a box labelled 'Made to Jaguar specification in Germany'. It contained a fliter stamped 'Made in Poland'!

Both the Oil Filter and its box were labelled 'Made in Germany'

Didn't Poland used to be part of Germany?

Apparently there is a difference between "manufactured in" and "made in".

Take a a look at the packaging on a Quaker State filter wrench some time.

"Manufactured in the USA" is on the packaging. "Made in China" is on the wrench. And there is some blurb highlighting the USA part, never mentioning the true source of the actual wrench. So, "manufactured in the USA, via China" would be more truthful. The acutal wrench that you hold in your hand is from China, the packaging you throw away is from the USA.

"Manufacturing" can be something as minor as final packaging or applying a UPC bar code sticker.

Same here in the UK

Salmon from anywhere in the world can be labeled as "Scottish Salmon" as long as it is tinned there!
