Hi All,

My 2001 XKR stopped running on me a few days ago and the fuel pumps went bad (again!!). I had them replaced in 2015.

Is the large price jump going to OEM worth the added cost? If the OEM pumps are worth 3x the cost I am willing do take the leap if it means getting a few more years before this dreaded job needs to be done again.

Thanks.

When I replaced my fuel pump several years ago, I bought the new one at NAPA because I wanted better quality than Autozone, etc. Fit was great and I'm glad I went this route. Price was higher, probably about $100.

I used Denso 951-0008, which I suspect was the original manufacturer at least for the earlier style pumps. Be sure the fuel filter has been changed too.

no it was ford/visteon and doesn’t need splicing to work

How much work is it to change the filter? Something you do only when changing the pump?

Fairly easy. Be sure to have new filter & new o-rings. Located near left rear wheel well. The bracket rusts easily so maybe plan to wire brush & repaint it black it yourself while the bracket is off. I think the Jaguar interval is longer, but I’d probably change whenever changing fuel pumps and every 30k-50k miles depending on gas quality and how long the gas sits around in the tank un-used. Usually forgotten, tho easy.

Here’s a good video

Anyone know of a cheaper fuel pump for the 4.2 cars. Jaguar want £400 or so. I know there is a pump you can sort of cludge together call Osias E2226 but I was wandering if there is a drop in replacement.

To my knowledge no one here has found a viable aftermarket fuel pump for the 4.2 cars. A couple of members indicated that they planned to attempt to repair their 4.2 fuel pumps but thus far I have not seen a successful report of anyone doing so....

I hope someone manufacturers a replacement at some point because if mine conks out I don't feel like spending £400+labour on a new fuel pump only for it to also die later on.

The best way to keep your fuel pump from dying is to drive the car on a regular basis. Do not allow it to sit for weeks or months at a time....

It's my daily car so it gets a lot of driving out of it. I also take it on holidays whenever I can. I think I do about 6k miles in it a year or there abouts.
