Default Headrest inoperative. Got a question.

As stated, both headrests on the front seats are not functioning. The motors work but there is no up or down movement. Seeing that both headrests are in the down position and I don't have anyone that fits in the back seats, I was wondering if there is a way to disconnect the motor. By that I mean, turn the seat motor off completely. Is there a fuse? Something else? Any info is appreciated and thanks in advance.

I have searched for this forum for a repair and there are plenty but none that explain how to turn the motor off completely. My headrests are in the bottom position and that is where I would like them to stay.

The TSB is to be appreciated as a starting point regardless if one chooses to disconnect to motor or chooses anyone of the many fixes.
FWIW, my cheap "Split Tygon hose clamp method" is flawless going on 7 years now and I "dare" it to fail.
"If" I had it to over, I would consider the custom length cables.

Then why not simply leave them alone without worrying about pulling fuses?

The first repair I did on my wife's 2006 XK8 less than a week after we purchased it in early February 2012 was the well-known headrest cable sheath shortening fix. The passenger headrest was stuck in the giraffe position (all the way up). I performed the fix, the passenger headrest then functioned normally, so I lowered it all the way down as my wife requested. And there it has stayed for more than six years now....

The headrests on my XK will stay all the way down like yours for as long as I own this car. Since I won't be moving the headrests there has to be a way to shut the motor off. It can be annoying.

I see the "disconnect". If the seat "thinks" the headrest is up, then it activates the motor to bring it down every time the seat is tilted forward (so it does not hit the ceiling), and then back up again. From memory, if you move the headrest adjustment down all the way (spin the motor, really), the seat will "think" the headrest is down and the motor will not activate when the seat is tilted...

On mine, driver fascia fuse #8 is dedicated to the drvr seat switchpack, hd rest, and steering tilt. Likewise, on passenger side fascia fuse #8 less the steering tilt.
If any of those functions are needed, I would suggest disconnecting the headrest motors rather than pulling a fuse.

I think this is the solution I am looking for. Now, the question is......how do I adjust the motor to think the headrest is in the "All the way down" position? Do I just push down on the headrest button on the side of the seat? Or what? Thanks for the info.

From memory, yes. Until the motor stops, I think.

Mine is an 01 XKR and doesn't have a button that controls the headrest at least that I can find. I never need them to raise and lower, just unplugged the motor from inside the seat back. Is there anything wrong with that approach?
