Default Heat Shield C2N2100 Substitute

Jaguar Down Pipe Heat Shield C2N1200 for 2004 Jaguar XKR are no longer available and extremely hard to find used. Has anyone come up with a substitution? I have seen some heat shields on line that are described as formable, which make them a possible substitute, but before I order one I just am asking what other people have done.

Hi @all!
I had the same problem with my MY2004 XKR - the heatshield disintegrated to crap during unmounting. My solution is not the easiest way, i fear, but i couldn't find a used one and a new part is not available from Jaguar anymore. I decided to built my own version using Alu-sheet & HEATSHIELD armor (https://www.heatshieldproducts.com/heatshield-armor) 1/4inch thick.

I bent the Alu over a wodden-rig, riveted some parts together with stainless popp-rivets and mounted the heatshield from the underside.

From my eyes it looks better than the original, beside from i should have taken much smaller rivets. I will see next time :-)

But this is the cost and time consuming way. The Heatshield material alone cost me around 80 EUR (but enough to produce 4 parts) and at least here in Germany it was hard to get.

Greetings,
Wolf

Thank you Wolf. Much appreciated. Great ingenuity! I will definitely keep this as one of my options.
Thank you again.

Wolf, did you glue the heat shield to the underside of the aluminum?

No, glue was NOT an option because of the high temperatures - this panel sits direct attached to the exhaust manifold. The armor-material should withstand continuus temperatures of ~1000 degree Celsius, but i couldn't find a glue with approval to use it with more than 180 degree Celsius. And i think, the manifold will get much hotter. So one can't use the self-adhesive isolation products, that are offered for use on the chassis.

The heatshield-armor is flexible, so I pressed the heatshield-material into the alu mainpanel from the underside and clamped it at the ends with small alu stripes, that were then riveted to the main panel. Maybe it would also be possible, to crimp the edges of the alu at the corners around the heatshield. It's material is stiff enough to stay, if it is mounted at the ends. I hope you get the idea...

It should be also possible, to simply wrap the armor-shield around the manifold and fix it with stainless metal ties (also available from "heatshield"), but my intention was to have "the thing" easy removable and a little bit of "good looking".

I decided to use heatshield armor https://www.heatshieldproducts.com/hd-heatshield-armor , as it is provided with a thicker insulation than inferno-shield. Maybe someone with a deeper knowledge can chime in, but from my understanding, the shield should help to heat up the cat and not only protect the surrounding components.

Sorry for the rough explanation, but i'm not a native speaker.

Greetings,
Wolf

Thank you neatcat for the additional explanation. I will probably go with a formable SS Heat Shield and put some stiffers on it if I feel it’s still not stiff enough. Not sure how much air blows in that area that could warp the heat shield.
