Default Honeymoon over

So I got my first engine warning light today. Of course the ODB reader I have does not even power on. I have ordered the Mongoose cable and IDS software from the UK as I assume this won’t be the last time. There are no additional warnings and the car still seems to drive OK. Hoping it will get me home (200 kms).

What year car ?

you don’t need the special cable and reader for most faults. My icarsoft LR-v1 reads all the engine, transmission, and body faults just fine. Cost was under $100. It’s been superseded by the v2.0 . Amazon has those for $111.

yeah, I have a laptop and no problems using it with a cable etc type system, my Jaguar is an
XKR 2003, I bought it with abs and airbag lights showing, from the conversation I had with the seller I feel it's due to battery constantly being empty, sat, not been used.
So battery tender on now, in my shop 😀, just putting feelers out as to what diagnostics you guys have/use.
Thanks

I have been using SDD V130 with a Mongoose Clone interface on my 2003 XK8 for many years. SDD should run under original Win XP, not in a VM.

SDD has an user interface that takes a bit of getting used to because it was developed for trained personnel. However, I have already found a ground fault on a hidden cable with SDD, the symptom based troubleshooting works fine.

On older vehicles up to about MY 2000 the SDD user interface suggests going back to WDS/IDS, which is integrated.

To note with OBD work is always a good battery support, best with at least 25A.

Thanks. It’s seems my 2001 will need the IDS system. I also use the factory system on my Lexus LS430 which is cryptic but very powerful. I have an old laptop running XP for the Lexus so that will now become my generic car diagnostics PC. I am hoping it is just a leaky or incorrectly screwed down petrol cap. I had this with the Lexus and the fix was a new petrol cap.

Seems that you are already well equipped for the diagnosis with IDS with the hardware and your experience background.
The workshop manual and the wiring diagrams for the vehicle, which can be found on JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource , are also very helpful.
