Default How to adapt the Passenger seat to 8 way

Is there a easy way to adapt the right side front seat from the (4 or 6 way) to a 8 way adjustable like the driver's (Left)? car is 2003 XK8 Coupe. Perhaps changing the seat base? I don't know what the difference is but the addition adjustment would be worth extra effort and reasonable cost. What mechanical and electronic changes would be required? Suggestions please?

I want to say the adjustments are the same between driver and passenger seats. The only difference I can think of is that the passenger side has no memory feature. If you passenger seat does not seem to have as many adjustments, the culprit is most likely the control module. The best test is to swap the control modules between driver side and passenger side and verify that the lack of adjustment goes with the module, so to speak. These modules are right under the front edge of the bottom cushion, held by 2x10mm nuts. If the module ends up being defective, it can most likely be repaired.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

If you find after swapping the module that the passenger side is defective you can contact Darrell Turner at 858-649-9090. He has repaired a couple of mine and nummerous ones for other forum members.

Thanks for replies and, yes, the right side seat control switch is different. All available positions work plus heater also. . The left side has fore & aft, front cushion up & down and rear cushion up & down. The Right front control switch has only fore & aft. No movement on switch to indicate the control could control the other motors if they were present. Perhaps the left frame lower mount and switch assembly would attached to the existing seat back and bottom cushion? any ideas on this?

Get a drivers seat frame complete with motors and switchpack from a right hand drive car and swap it over.

I did exactly this one my old left hand drive X-Type, got a right hand drive drivers seat frame sent over from the UK and swapped it in.

This sounds fishy to me. Seems like some of this is not original. A possible scenario is that there was something wrong with the passenger seat control module (very common), and someone replaced the switches from another model. I would take a hard look at the passenger seat mechanism after looking at the driver side, especially the cushion up/down mechanism. There is an off chance the seat is complete, but the switches are not allowing some functionality. Just a thought. Best of luck.

Thanks for suggestions, I also didn't think of that scenario. Will ck closely and see. The bottom has no up or down at front or rear.

Actually this is fairly common, at least in the U.S. Mine is this way.

My 1998 passenger seat also only goes back and forth with no vertical adjustment. Is this normal or is it broken?

Also, the drivers side moves vertically but I have not figured out how to raise just the front or rear part of the seat to change the tilt of the cushion. I presumed that with motors at the front and rear, they would be independently adjustable to allow tilt but both seem to operate in unison.

Do you actually allow your passengers to interfere with switches and settings?

As I've told Mrs G., riding in my car is a privilege and not a right.

Not Broken.

2001 was the first year that the Driver's Seat had separate up-down functions on the front and rear of the seat bottom.

Thanks for confirming that it is working as intended!
