Default intruder alarm goes off for no reason

Hi there, my intruder alarm was going off for no reason at all over the last fortnight.
First I removed the off side bonnet catch with switch attached. Cleaned it all up (mainly because i could not get at the switch) & adjusted the arm so that it definitely makes & breaks contact. I checked this with a fluke. Replaced the catch - no change !!!
So i removed the boot catch, did exactly the same procedure , but the boot catch is different in the fact that it can move about on the bolts !
Having pencilled round the catch before removal, i found it quite easy to replace it only a bit higher than original.
Now this has cured the problem. no more false alarms .
NOW the question remaining is - how does the car alarm know when either of these switches are at fault because 1 activates the bonnet open on the dashboard & the other switch turns the boot light on & off !!
I now know how to fix the problem but don't understand how the alarm works with an open switch !!
Surely it would need a certain amount off resistance to read even when the circuit was 'open' ???
happy but still a little bit confused

Any thoughts about this would be greatly appreciated
i did try the wiring diagram route , but i must confess i got myself lost there !

Hi,
It might be the security sounder dying. If the issue comes back, you can check by just disconnecting it.

Take a look at this thread from DevonDavid for the whys and hows:

If you have access to WDS or IDS you can see if LAST ALARM ACTIVATION is listed and interrogate the module for info.

It should tell you what caused the LAST ALARM ACTIVATION. (what switch or sensor)

Otherwise it is a guessing game and part-by-part investigation?
