Greetings. Before I dive into purchasing the IDS software and cable I need to know what parameters I can reprogram on the IDS software.

The car is a 97 XK8 that had bad head gaskets. I was going to do an LS swap, had the motor, trans, c5 turbo kit, for the swap but people LS swap everything. I scrapped that build.

I am now swapping the car to an om606 diesel with a 6speed manual. My jeep is a benz diesel, why not the jag.

I want to reprogram the vehicle to believe it is a manual trans. I have seen the parameter in old videos but don't know if it actually let you select it. This will help me eliminate a check engine light as I attempt to fool the rest of the sensors to think the engine is still there.

 

To my knowledge, there never was a publicly-for-sale XK8/XKR from Jaguar with a manual transmission, so there is no programming this in with IDS. Even that car with a manual gearbox everyone saw (top gear?) had the light on and "incorrect part fitted" message. Furthermore, IDS would program the Jaguar modules, but you likely would need to use the engine management of this new power-train you are thinking about.

You might want to check Jaguar Specialties for some detail, especially look into how to interface the "foreign" engine management with all the external systems, starting with the speedometer. This kind of one-off engine swap would likely need some sort of data bus bridge involving quite a bit of research/development on largely non-public data messages.

 

The engine being installed is 100% mechanically operated. I can run them while they are on the engine hoist. I understand they didn't come manual but often times the options will still be there to code it as such.

 

Not likely to be there but I love an optimist.

 

If the engine is 100% mechanical it might be easier to easier if someone like Dakota Digital can make you some custom stand alone gauges. Then wire your reverse lights directly to the trans and pick up an aftermarket cruise control system and you are done.

 

you are in New York State. There will be no way to pass the emissions check if you are in a required area. The car must be registered in a state that does not perform emissions inspections.

That looks interesting. It'll be a good read if someone takes on a gear ratio swao or similar and uses this to spoof the ecm.
