Default Knock sensors fault code PO327 and PO332 XK8

Can anyone throw some light on an issue with an 2002 XK8. It sometimes goes into restricted mode and having plugged a code reader PO327 and PO332 comes up. Just bought the car and I have not done any work on it yet and it might be a simple as cheap low octane fuel or worn spark plugs. Just wondering though is their a common problem as it states that both circuits have low input and am I unlucky that both sensors have gone. I have a list of things to try before buying any parts but it is always good to seek other peoples views first. Thanks

By chance, did you wash the engine or have a hose that sprayed anti freeze near the top of the engine?
The sensors don't take kindly to water on the flat connection that is the ground on the bottom.
Not a easy job to take them off and clean the bottom of the sensor and the area they set on, even on a 4.0, the Turbo presents it's own issue to get to them.

Not the fuel .I am in the UK and use the cheapest supermarket 95
The sensors for the S type are identical and about half the price on ebay.

Hi There. many thanks for the reply
I have not cleaned anything, but the previous owner might have. I have heard that it could be a ground problem and it is on my list of many things to check. If I find the issue I will post what it was and other things for others to check.

Many thanks for the info. I will definitely bear it in mind if I have to replace them.

If you can get to them and pull the power line thru the intake, be sure and tie a line to the wire so you can pull it back through. Might not work on a Turbo.
The bottom of the sensor is copper and you can sand that and the area it sets on. If no luck, new ones are your next move.

These sensors are located in the middle of the "V" of the V8. They are grounded through contact with the engine block. That area is also where the water hoses to the heater core are routed. They are typically neglected because of the labor involved to reach them, i.e., removing the plastic intake, throttle body, injector rails, etc.. So, these sensors may lose that good ground because of corrosion caused by leaking heater hoses.

The more skilled mechanics can somehow manage to work the available space to reach/clean/replace these sensors without removing the intake.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Hi there thanks for the detailed response. it seems to be the consensus that it is a poor ground connection, so after checking visually as this seems to cost no monies I gonna go for the cleaning of the sensor where it grounds and if possible the block? i don't want to take of the manifold so I a definitely going to learn to be a skilled mechanic at least in getting to these sensors. Keep you informed. Thanks again
