Question Leaking engine mount

I have a 1999 XK8 and it appears the driver side engine mount leaks a reddish fluid. Do the engine mounts hold hydraulic fluid and if they leak do they need to be replaced? What if they leak out all fluid and I don't replace them - what bad things can happen?

Herman, you have a early car but the mount has been superseded to the new one.
MNC7500AB according to SNG, one of our sponsors and mention you are a member and get 10% off.

Oh, yes they are full of fluid and you will get some banging once the fluid runs out, then you could break the bracket, engine falls, can't steer the car, hoses split, you get the picture, REPLACE IT!

Thanks for the how to Gus,

I dropped my subframe today and one of the mounts fell out with it.

Looks tricky to get on the top bolt and I bet its going to be very tight, hope it doesn't spin too.

Well that did not go smoothly.

When I levered my home made spanner, the nut and remains of the mount just spun.

So I had to grind it out, so three hours later.
