Hey Lads and Lasses,
I am torn here today as I have an appointment setup to view a low mileage 2000 XKR coupe in black - with black leather interior.
The 2003 MY that I currently own has so many advantages with the updated motor and transmission giving it great reliability vs the earlier cars. Should I even be considering going 3 years backwards?
Car is a 2000 XKR with only 78k on the clock. California car so no weather-related issues and it has a nice-looking black leather interior. The original asking was 13,500 and it has now dropped to 11,000. It has been listed for nearly 20 weeks, so I am assuming no one is rushing in to buy it. That may be a clue there, but it may also be that it is what it is. My current car has nearly 180K on the clock, the paint desperately needs a redo, and it is a convertible which is not the car I wanted in the beginning. I always pined for the coupe but of course would rather have the latest rendition over a 2000 MY.
I am not an expert per se, on the earlier cars but I understand that there may be a Nicacel issue and maybe transmission? I believe I had heard that the XKR uses a Mercedes transmission and not the ZF. So, looking for some advice on this model year and if I am doing myself any favors even considering a switch out. I do love my 2003 after putting so much work into it but the idea of having a XKR in black - and a coupe is just irresistible to me at the moment.

I would jump on that in a heartbeat - big plus with the Double 5 Rims! The XKR has the Mercedes transmission an Nakisil is no longer an issue to worry about. Not the best images (could be photo angle but looks like front end is sitting a bit low) but I would check the upper shock mounts for signs of deterioration - yeah low mileage but a 23 year old car with only 73K on the clock - I would venture to guess sure no one has even looked at suspension components in its lifetime. Not a show stopper and an easy DIY.
The NAV is mostly 'useless' but I removed the display panel in one of my 2000 XKRs that had that and replaced it with a GARMIN 2597 LMT and a Garmin BC 30 backup camera.
Hot glued some brackets on the veneer panel from behind and it works better than the factory setup.
The wife's 2000 XKR '3 gauge' still has the Motorola Jaguar phone in the console but she wants to keep it there 'just-because'.(it still powers up but outdated service)
I probably should replace one of my 3 sedans with an XK coupe like the one in the pic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Hagerty insurance is a plus with these cars)

The Garmin 2597LMT can be updated with software before installing in the fascia.
I added the BACKUP CAMERA option. (BC 30 kit)
Mine is installed slightly off to the right because there is a microphone hole in the lower left corner that I wanted to keep exposed.
The 'perf-metal' I found and used on the sides is so I can hear the speaker on the back of the GPS unit.
The camera flash reflection kinda 'washed-out' the screen but the actual graphics are great.
I'm with you all the on picking an X100 XKR black coupe! But I'm biased [see below].
My 2003 XKR has R Package, Recaro seats, Brembo brakes, 20" Detroits and 3 gauge centre cluster.
I'm in Canada and nav was an option here [standard in the USA so I am told] so it has all the options you would want and the one you don't
I bought it two years ago. It came originally from my local Jaguar dealer and I went in asking if it was possible get background information on it. The salesman looked at the owners' manual I said he could help as it was his handwriting in the manual so I left with the four page build/spec/order sheet.
Previous owner added 1" spacers so it has a very wide footprint [looks awesome] and deleted last five silencers so it growls like a V8 supercharged Jag should.
Happy travels X100 drivers.
