mileage: good or bad
Hello Everybody
Long time lurker, first time poster. Great informative site. Am looking at a 2002 XKR with 35,000 miles. Car Fax has only two service records and the seller is trying to track down some documentation on the car. For the known issues of plastic tensioners, top hydraulics and CAT suspension, I'm thinking at 35,000 miles it may be a moot point since those issues wouldn't show up then. Of course I would then be on the hook for the repairs down the road. Are my assumptions correct? I figure to average 5 to 6k miles per year. Also is there a Jag specialist in the Sarasota FL area that could do a pre purchase inspection for me? Thank you

Price ??
if under $6,000, then it might still be a deal. But if over $10,000, then you have to have service records showing the tensioners already done, as well as the suspension and water pump replacements.
the tensioners can fail at any time . Low mileage cars are not exempt from a sudden failure.
And we haven’t even started talking rust yet.—-

my North American 2002 XKR must have the engine prior to the factory timing chain upgrade, but I don’t know the engine number,
is it easy to find / read on the 2002’s ?
I do know the VIN ( SAJDA41B82PA24583 )

I don't know the protocol for engine/vehicle actual manufacture date progression.(what if an engine gets delayed and THEN installed?)
Engine manufacture date (engine serial number) is the ONLY actual way to determine other than to ACTUALLY remove a cam cover to see.
Are you the original owner?
What if the engine was replaced before you bought the car?
What if someone used an earlier engine?
What if???????????????????
READ THE ENGINE NUMBER. (report back after engine number OR looking at the chains/tensioners)

Thank you to everyone who chimed in. What I have now right now is maintenance by a local Jaguar dealer in 2019, then pre-inspection by the seller who replaced the tires and brakes this year. I have scheduled my own pre-inspection with an experienced Jaguar mechanic recommended by the local Jaguar club. Will keep everybody posted.
