I emailed my local Jag dealer parts depart last fri in the early am, even sent them a pic diagram of the windshield seal for the conv top cars. The damn seal that goes across the windshield header and down the A pillars. His first reply last week was "You mean the chrome..... Chrome, WTF???? I sent him another email, with pic and item number in it This is his reply..
GOOD MORNING , I HAVE A CALL INTO MY TECH LINE AND AM WAITING ON A CALL BACK . I WILL LET YOU KNOW THIS AFTERNOON RIGHT WHEN THEY CALL ME BACK..
I find that pathetic they do not know what I am talking about.

You asked about this in June didn't you? Is it the same item being discussed? I explained then, in that thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-seals-120703/ the removal and installation process and the cost for the part from Gaudin.
It is best to not create entirely new threads for the same issues, it makes it much harder to search and to track progress etc.

Parts guys dont know these cars as well as you might think. I've had many wrong parts ordered and returned. My dealer also wanted $97.50 for my fuel filter. I stopped in a week later to pick up a part, and informed him that I got it for $8.99 at Advance auto, using a Purolator filter that I crossed referenced.

I'm not so quick to rag on the parts guys, put yourself in their shoes for a minute.
You might know your own car inside out, because that's your car. The parts guy is expected to know every single model ever made, in every little detail? Maybe even multiple brands depending on the dealership? Come on... The local dealer here has Jag, Land Rover, Aston Martin, Volvo, Bentley and Rolls Royce under the one roof, I can't expect them to know every single nut & bolt on my 10 year old car....
The best thing you can do, is get your hands on a parts catalogue, from SNG Barratt, or download the JEPC which is available here on the forum, or find the PDF's of the old catalogues (also available in our download center). Find the part you are talking about, then go to the parts guy & say; "i need an XYZ for my '99 X-whatever, I think this is the part number, can you double-check for me?" and at least you are saving the guy some time, while pointing him in the right direction.
The pricing is a whole other issue, don't get me started. But the main gripe in the OP was to identify the part itself...which you can actually do yourself with the tools available.

I sent him a DIAGRAM of the components for the top, seals and all, he still missed it at first.
I told him is was a rubber/foam seal and he comes back with CHROME METAL parts. Come on, sounds like they have a 21 year old running the parts dept.
