Default My tax dollars at work

I live in PA and decided to get a vanity tag for my baby. Settled on PRTY KTY (Pretty Kitty) and sent in my application two weeks ago along with a check for $ 76.00. Got a phone call this morning from the PA Department of Motor Vehicles questioning what I REALLY meant by PRTY KTY; insinuating that perhaps I was trying to sneak a synonym for "P-ssy" onto my license tag, thereby putting the high moral standards of Pennsylvania citizens at risk. I explained to him (I did talk slowly) that the car in question was a Jaguar; named after a well-know breed of large cat. He seemed to understand, but explained that this "would have to be reviewed by the committee", whatever the heck that means (it probably means that I am out $76), but at least I know that my State taxes are being used to protect me from myself.

You can't make this stuff up........

I've been trying to come up with something clever for new vanity plates for my XK8 here in VA as they told me I have to get new plates anyways as mine are over 10 years old and they want them turned in. They didn't used to do this but they do now. So far everything I've tried on their online vanity tag register has come back already taken except for one. It accepted "JAGNOFF" but got an email a few days later stating it had been rejected. I can't imagine why? So I have until middle of next month to come up with something or accept another set of generic plates.

Only $76? Quite the bargain (assuming you get the plates...). Personalized plates can run in excess of $200 here in the great state of Illinois, depending on if you want vanity vs. personalized or a speciality plate.

And the turnaround time? 60-90 business days

I, too, have vanity plates for my XK8. They simply read, XK 8. My XJSC is, you guessed it, XJ SC. And my LR3 is ROVER.

I've never been a creative type...

There must be a lot of Jag's in VA because I tried all the usual combo's of XK8, Jag XK8, My XK8 Feline, NiceCat etc and they all were already taken. Its worth coming up with something though because its only $10 extra in VA for vanity plates.

Just tried that on their online thing and it rejected that too...

Hopefully I can scare up enough funds to do the secondary tensioners in November. I'm tired of that feeling of impending CATastrophe whenever I turn the key.

I used my initials in combination with the word jag on the xk8 I keep in VA.

When I was younger I to get a personalized plate with the Greek word for restless (which has a playboy ish connotation in Greek) years ago here in NJ and the dmv rejected it - demanding an explanation - they did send my check back with the letter requesting a detailed explanation and I decided at that point that I really didn't care for the plate anyway and never sent it back in.

My all-time favorite personalized tag remains BRD SHT. I doubt if anyone could get that through the DMV these days....

I saw a plate must have been 30 years ago and it was "YUK FU". Bet that won't fly these days either.

Dave
VA is NOTORIOUS for allowing "questionable" license plates through...

See a few examples below:

Take care,

George

That is triple what I paid in pa in June for my ENZ0WH0 plate. I mulled it around for years and the only reason I went with a tag was because the price increased drastically on July 1st. They didn't have a problem with Enzo who for the record as I'm sure they didn't know what it meant. I have a feeling yours will come thru. I have always had a somewhat good experiences with Penn Dot. They are much more efficient and effective then our medical system I've learned.

I know, I missed the July 1st deadline. I already have a custom tag on my SUV:
STLRCKN (I'm a 73 year-old rock musician). Kind of in limbo right with regard to the status of my request, but I guess I'll have to wait it out. When I checked the PENNDOT website and put PRTY KTY in, it said it wasn't available, so who knows?

I managed to get "JAG XKR" before the price bump.
