No start 2001 XKR
Help, please. I have a 2001 XKR coupe. It has been having trouble starting. this problem has been getting worse for about 6 months. I could turn the ignition on/off two or three times before trying to start. After the the 3 tries it would start, but has been getting worse. Just had the plugs changed, replaced a bad coil. My mechanic is puzzled. He has been doing cars for me for many years and is very knowledgeable about Euro cars and Jags. I put a new air filter in. The last drive the car would stumble when you accelerated above 2500 rpm. Now it just cranks and cranks. I can hear the fuel pump in the tank cycling then stops. I do not know where the front fuel pump is located. My mechanic has a very good scanner and it troughs no codes . Any thoughts or diagnostic hints. Sure sounds like a fuel delivery issue.

In fact it sounds like both fuel pumps have failed - they are both located in the fuel tank - there is no front fuel pump. You need to test the fuel pressure at the Schrader valve on the fuel rail - there are lots of threads on this in the forum, but start here for your car:-

The 4.0 XKR has two fuel pumps, both in the fuel tank. Normally the car starts and run on one fuel pump, when you accelerate hard and getting boost from the supercharger, the other fuel pump kicks in.
If the main fuel pump fails, the ECU switch to the second fuel pump after several start attempts. That was exactly what you have experienced. Now the second pump has said goodbye and the car wont start.
