Does anyone have any suggestions for products to polish (compound/clean) and wax my 98 xk8. It is black. It is not oxidized but has a few marks that I would like to attend to. i have a 10" orbital polisher. Thanks

 

Well, opinions and suggestions are like ........, everyone's got one, but I'll offer what worked on my black XKR. First, I clayed the vehicle (a number of articles are referenced here in the forum). While I thought the surface was void of any contaminants, using the clay process proved me wrong. A number of companies offer clay products through auto parts stores. After the clay, I used Meguiar's NXT generation tech wax, by hand, rather than an orbital polisher to avoid swirl marks from the orbital. I was pleased with the outcome.

 

I have been using Turtle Wax Ice, both the wash and the wax, and the results have been excellent. When used as directed it is very easy to apply and remove and the results look like "liquid glass". Water will usually bead up for at least three-five months depending on weather conditions.

www.autopia.org is detailers' heaven, but they can be a little too obsessive, even for a nerd like me. Having tried dozens of products and techniques, I now use, in order:

- Farecla G30 cutting compound (very good, but aggressive - haven't used it on the Jag)
- T Cut (less aggressive cut)
- Autoglym polish
- Pinnacle Souveran wax (ridiculously expensive, but very good)

Note I use a 6" MOP rather than a 10" (I have one of these, too), as I find it more effective and easier to handle.
