Default Problems changing fuel filter (1997)

Ran engine ..pulled fuse ..engine stopped.
Released engine side Joint to let it drain.
After 1/2 gallon and no sign of stopping I tightened it up again....
So what did I do wrong >? How much comes out ?

Doesn't sound as if you did anything wrong.
I had a container ready 'just in case' when I swopped it out, but got little more than a dribble.

I haven't read of it being an issue - I guess there must be some form of anti-siphon mechanism in there?

Just had a go to do it with it pi$$ing out and its too much for saftey /comfort.Left it in place.
I wonder if the excessive flow is because I had the back up on my giant ramps???.
Any information welcome.

Could be a slight pressure build up in the tank is forcing the fuel through. The design is for the tank to have 1-2 PSI of pressure before the relief valve will open. Did you open the fuel cap before starting?

I think your fuel pump 'one-way' valve is weak and siphoning fuel.
One of my cars does this and it is ANNOYING.

I suppose I should replace the pump but............. It is functioning otherwise.

Yes I did open the filler and yes the pump was $12 so maybe no anti syphon....
anyway left the original in place ..If I need to get in the tank again I could replace the filter while the pump is out ...oh what joy .

I think the real solution is to remove the speaker cover in the rear shelf and disconnect the outlet pipe ..two clips and slide the rubber to break the syphon seal ...then it should only leak what is in the pipe up to the top of the tank ..that's for another day as I am off to France next week ....
