Default Radio code?

Do our cars have radio codes? When I changed the battery on my Honda, I had to call a dealer to get the radio code entered to enable it back.

Your 2003 does not need a radio code. I'm not sure about earlier model years, however.

I think the really early cars do (I saw it in the 1996 dealer handover video) but my 2000 does not.

My 2001 has a radio code, but I've had my battery disconnected, and have never had to use it, but the codes are on a card with the original manuals.

Interesting. Perhaps my radio has a code as well, but I just never received it. I've had the battery disconnected with no need to use the code either.

I believe that North American cars have been "Re-Programmed" so that they don't need the code.

My car came with a code card, but I haven't needed it when changing the battery.

However, some of the Tone Control settings were lost.

Thk you for all the comments.

Any of you that replaced the battery use non-OE battery? I am going to go to Advance and buy their house-brand rather than go to the dealer.

I bought a Bosch battery from Pep Boys when mine finally went dead. I think the original battery lasted 8 years. I don't really like the Bosch. It has the little vent tube, like it needs to have since it's in the trunk, but the cover that goes over the + terminal doesn't go down when the battery is installed. The cable gets in the way. And it has a cheap, nylon strap rather than the nice molded handle that the original battery had. It starts the car, though, and I guess that's all that really matters. It's the only battery I could find locally that would fit.

As long as your radio head unit is set to US you won't have to enter a radio code. If you change the country to Europe or some other country that requires a code your radio will lock you out until the code is entered!!
