Rear wing repair
Look at the pics in the post from the start of this thread, yoiu will se it was a waste of time.
Here is what I plan as an alternative air vent. I plan to put in three of these so there is not too much of a restriction. They should tuck away behind the carpet.

I will probably also use the two access holes for the wires used for the US bumper lights as they are redundant on my car.

Had a look at the easy side (LH) of mine yesterday, and although there was a fair bit of dry dust and dirt, there doesn't appear to be any rust. Was tempted to scrape it back to bare metal but decided it was probably better to leave things pretty much as they are. Gave it a fairly gentle clean up, a liberal spray with waxoyl, and put it all back together again. I'm now undecided as to whether it's worth the considerable additional work to have a look at the other side with the complications of CD changer, amplifier, hydraulics etc.
Mine is a '97 car, with four previous owners and 120k miles, but I think I'm lucky in as much as it can't have been used much in winter, when the roads are salted and rust can really get a hold in these hidden places.

There is a tiny hole about 3mm across in the very lowest area where the outer and inner walls meet with the bottom of the wheel arch, yours is filled with dirt. If you clean it out you will find the hole.
I picked up the car from the painter this morning. They had rebondo'ed my filler attempts, blended base coat over the repairs, round the wheel arches and along the sills then clear-coated the entire rear wings, sills and right rounds the back of the car. They have done quite a good job, I can see it because I know it is there but it is good enough. Just hope it last for at least 10 years. I should have cleaned the wings before taking the pics as they are a bit dirty after driving the car in rain today.
