Default Removing CD Changer

Has anyone removed the CD Changer on an XK? I have the Navigation head stacked above the changer, and above that what looks like a pre-amp. It is all screwed down in a rack with out of the way screws.

Sam I have removed mine a few times. You can get to the hold down screws, but 1 warning: Be slow and careful feeling around for the rear screws - there are razor sharp edges back there. (Guess how I know:-)).

I used a small 90degree offset screw driver to get to the screws

There’s a pedestal type stabilization bracket in back of everything with a nut holding it down on a small stud, iirc.

now would be a good time to install the Bluetooth adaptor that discount car stereo sells. It plugs into the amp wiring . No wire cutting involved.

Once your knuckles are well lubricated by blood the job is not too difficult. What hurts most is when you have it all buttoned up and then decide the wiring plugs need to be re-routedto alleviate as much stress as possible.

Not familiar with the Nav unit, but I found it easier to remove the entire rack with all components still mounted. You can see the 4 bolts holding it PLUS there is one hidden down behind in the Qtr. Pnl. that requires a longer extension. After removal, I cut a slot to allow the bolt to be installed and the mounting bracket to slip under the installed bolt. Do not think I would ever got the bolt talented blindly. Tilt the assembly in and then back, the hidden bolt slips in, the other 4 holding the assembly are visible. Worked for me.

I’m on the road at the moment. I’ll post the information shortly . I learned about the easy to install kit here on the forum, several of us have it installed.

Great high fidelity ( that’s a grandpa term from the 1950’s.

Zray Excellent, appreciate it very much!

We talkin monkey wards hi-fi, or McIntosh MC30 hi-fi?? lol kidding...best stereo I ever had was a Dynaco with a quad of EL84's and Telefunken 12ax7's...the sound would make ya cry, and it did double duty as a very efficient room heater.

they are showing out of stock, I’d email them and inquire about an estimated date for shipping . They always reply promptly to my emails.

Thank You for sharing the links, appreciate it! I'll email 'em and see what they say.

I ALMOST picked up an old Marantz direct drive turn table about a month ago! I always worry about getting replacement needles though. I did pick up an old console combo a few years back, looked like "fine furniture" in 1959...the needle was slicing thru my Wes Montgomery album like a stiletto thru a leather jacket ..... decided Wes deserves a rest.

Dbtk, +1 on the Bluetooth recommended. I purchased the jagcd-hf. That 1 includes the ability to still use cd if you like, but Ttytt once I heard superior sound and wide open selection from Bluetooth I never used the inferior sounding cd changer again.

FWIW if one is an Amazon prime member, Amazon music is freeis yes I "upgraded" to the HQ version for $9 a month. Could I hear a difference? Well yes, but its too close to be absolutely sure without an A/B comparison. I'd say there is a more detailed high end. One thing about it though: you've got ta reload every single album if you are upgrading from SD to HD. PITA

dbtk44,

I found a source for my vintage Dual 1218 turntable's Shure V15 Type III replacement stylus back in 2017. The company is in Japan, I communicated back and forth with them via e-mail, it took more than a month to receive my stylus once I figured out which one to order (their English skills are limited), but it was well worth the wait and the money ($80). When I finally received and installed my new stylus, I began hearing my vintage vinyl LPs far better than they have sounded in more than 30 years. If the company is still in business, they may be able to provide you with the appropriate new stylus for your particular cartridge. The company was called Japan Station, and my replacement stylus was made by Jico to Shure's original mid-1970s specifications. I found the company on Amazon Marketplace, probably by using "Shure V15 Type III replacement stylus" as my search phrase on Google....

Despite all the logical reasons for modern music streaming to be the superior way to enjoy fine music, there’s something about my old B&O ( Bang & Olufsen )
turntable that is irreplaceable.

Wandering OT a bit here: There is a company by the name of Thakker (no affiliation) in Germany that can source stylii. I managed to find a Jico SAS replacement for my aging-but-still-fully-functional Technics turntable.

Sounds light years ahead of the anathema that is MP3

Default CD storage area.

I managed to get my CD rack out with only a few minor cuts(no ambulance required). The Nav unit was not required as I had changed out to full gauge display. When I purchased a used CD on eBay, it came with a Harmon-Kardon amp that I thought I might use, but did not find a power plug(only the small push in connector receptacles. Now I have an H-K amp sitting around looking for a home.
I reinstalled the CD changer, and my original amp, at least 3 times to get it right. ended up with a space below the changer after I moved it up into the Nav unit previous location. I filled the excess space with bubble wrap, and covered it all with black velvet. Now I have storage for a couple of CD magazines. So far so good.
