Default Replacing bumper growler badge

Noticed last week that the growler badge was missing from my front bumper. Don't know if someone popped it off or the adhesive gave way after about 18 years. Here's a challenge: Try to find a used OEM replacement for a 4.2-liter under $250. I couldn't. In fact very few used 4.2 badges are out there. And of course, they're out of production. Not wanting to drop that much on a badge that night get lost again, I opted for an Amazon knockoff intended for an XF. It doesn't say 4.2 and at 3.8" is larger than the original, but for $22 I can live with it until an affordable OEM shows up, if ever.

Removing the old badge was easy and difficult. Easy because you can cut through the adhesive with fishing line. Difficult because the badge has a plastic center post that goes thought the bumper cover and is held by a compression fastener that does not want to come off. I gave up trying when I realized there was no reason not to use the center hole on the remaining base of the badge as a guide and just drill thought the center post. I forget which bit shredded the post but i started real small and worked up a few sizes and the badge came loose.

The new badge had locating posts that needed to be ground flat so the adhesive would have a good surface to adhere to. It is a bit thicker that the original (which makes it even easier to steal). Below are a couple of shots of the end result. I'm not necessarily loving it, but not exactly hating it, either. It'll do.

Autoreserve in UK will have one and if they wont post it to you I will.
Just checked about £25 or $30.
You will need to e mail with photo to get exact match.

Badge is 1996 - 2002, 4.0 litre.
I can't locate one for a 2006 XK8.

Good post, good alternative.

Which badge was is that you were looking for as a replacement, the standard green 4.2 badge or the victory/final edition 4.2 white badge? Or are have you given up and living with the alternative?

Thanks for the tip. AutoReserve is a great resource with great prices. Unfortunately, they are currently out of stock on the 4.2 na badge, but I requested to be notified if/when they have it.

That looks similar to my replacement. Is it also the one intended for the F?

I'm looking for the 4.2 na and have not given up. Just have to wait until one surfaces at a realistic price.

I guess it depends what you would consider a realistic price. I have found a brand new 4.2 litre front badge for £55 here in the UK. If you think that is reasonable then I'd be happy to buy it and ship it to you at cost (can't be that much as they don't weigh anything). Failing that I'll send you a link and you can sort it out directly. Regards. Mark

Bought 6/03 XKR coupe last month. Noticed quarter-size button on deck lid just beneath spoiler badly faded. Asked dealer for replacement. YUP...nada. Also, wanted to upgrade NAV disc to '04 version since it has an analog clock that appears on screen. '03 version has small square in lower left corner when Jag logo appears. YUP...nada. Neither available online that I can find. "devil is in the details"

You can still buy many new parts direct from Jaguar if your pockets are deep enough - the cost of a replacement Sat Nav Disc sure takes your breath away!!

Somehow, I missed your post. £55 would a very good price. Can you provide the link? If they still have it, I will likely order directly from them. Thanks so much for the tip!

surely someone's made an ISO of this?

Also, I have a spare DVD unit here with the nav disk in it. I don't honestly recall if it showed the big clock on screen when the nav unit was in the car. Do you know if there's any way to eject the disk with the dvd unit separated from the car so i can check the version? After all if it turns out I have the newer disk I can always rip an ISO of it. I actually have a dvd burner tucked away in a drawer somewhere, and some blank DVDs which may still be good (they've not been exposed to the sun or anything).

I did this about 10 years ago, except I made a bezel for it too. More details are here.

I have found a pretty good second hand green 4.2 litre front badge, which I'll list on Ebay if you have found one already.

Hi MJSXK, I'd be interested in the green 4.2 front badge if you can supply details.
Feel free to PM or email me.

Amazingly, we share the same birthday, also notorious for the assassination of JFK.
It's a small world.

thanks, Steve
