Default Sat Nav Disc.

I was looking at an Advert for a 2005 xk8 the description included "has a Sat Nav but it doesn't have a disc" Do the 2005 xk8's have discs to run the sat nav?? I thought it was integral?

The navigation is run on a disc whose last update was 2003. There was no updating after that, so they are considerably outdated. Some members have burned copies or provided links to where the disc can be burned. There are always a number of them available on ebay as well.

So these Jags after 2003 run on discs? I always thought the nav system data was stored within the computer itself.

Very enlightening. Thanks

Ohhh I see. Just wondering what sat nav software maps they use......... I bet its some well known company where we could use their maps.

I really thought the software was built into the actual sat nav. Enlightening. I think I just may have a go at buying this AK8, its very nice.

Try a search in the XK8/R section for navigation updates Frank, you are not the first to venture down that path.

Frank,

I'm so pleased you asked this question.

The Jaguar SatNav 'Europe' software comes on four DVD's. The UK disc is installed in my XK but wouldn't be much use driving across France at the weekend!

Your thread reminded to switch to the right DVD.

Graham

The maps provider is Alpine, at least on my 2002 XKR with the premium sound system. As for updating the maps, Alpine has abandoned this system and will not provide updates. If you call Alpine, which I have, they will refer you to Jaguar. If you call Jaguar, they will refer you to Alpine. If you complain about the run around, you're told to "buy a new car". I've been down this path and gave up. I installed a new Sat/Nav system that uses the original screen. It a Garman system and I updated the maps, I believe in May of 2013.

Was it you who put up a how to thread? Took out the screen and replaced it with the garmin touch screen? If so I enjoyed the write up....

Sometimes other discs are compatable.......

This is hypothetical anyway.. Got to get the XK8 first!! The one I wanted to buy today had gone... Goood ones always do go quickly.

No, that wasn't my thread. I used the stock (original) non-touch screen. The Garman GVN 53 comes with a remote control that actually works very well. After using it for a while, I actually like it better than some touch screens that I've used. There is a write-up on installing the GVN 53 posted, I believe, by H2Oboy, who did this mod first. I followed what he did and have been very happy with the results.
