Seat Control Module
Are the right and left seat control modules interchangeable in a 1997 XK8? The drivers side isn't fully working and since I don't use the passenger seat that much, I thought that might be an inexpensive solution.
Yes i have switched mine back and forth when testing to determine if the passenger seat module was defective. If you search you will find other threads with how to repair the modules. the most common problem seem to be minor breaks in the circuits due to abrasion. my passenger seat will lean back but wouldn't come forward. After repairing the break it is working fine now.
That is the same problem I am having. I can get the seat back to do either back and forward by swapping the wires to the motor. That requires taking the back of the seat loose. I got a new switch, but that didn't fix it. I will look for the tread and hope that does it. Thanks.
Here is a link to an individual that does module repair. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...dation-103908/
Mine still works 8 months later.

Sneaking a bit off topic, are the 'brains' for the electric seat heaters in the seat control modules? All mechanical functions for both of my seats work perfectly but the driver side (RHD) seat heater is not working. The red LED on the dashboard on/off push switch isn't lighting when pushed either. The passenger side switch lights when heat is asked for and the seat heats.
Can big hands get at the seat modules or do I need to do a 'seatectomy' to pull them so I can do a module test swap? If the swap works I'll get inside the defective module and look for solder breaks or get a replacement.

Tilt the front part of the seat up as far as it will go. The module is held on by 2 bolts and you should be able to get it off quite easily from there.
If you have got sausage fingers and shovels for hands then you have to take the seat out.

Sounds simple enough
. If my 'food cart' hands and fingers prove to be too large I'll try my elbows. Man I hate pulling seats without a lift.
Thanks for the location and attachment overview.

Undo the seat cushion at the front by removing the nuts that hold it to the seat frame, lift up the seat cushion, and remove the seat control module. This is much easier than removing the seat, especially if the seat won't move front-to-back because you have a problem which is why you are removing the darned thing! Seat cushion has a nut on each side near the front. I think the nuts are 13 MM - easiest with a ratcheting box end wrench (AKA ring spanner). Seat Control Module nuts are 10 MM.
