Default Seat Recliner issue

Hi all; My 2003 Jag XKR driver's seat won't recline. I can hear the motor run when I hit the button. Is there any way to verify whether it's the motor drive or the module? Thanks

Paul,

Let's think this one through. There must be a permanent connection (ie not clutched, or solenoid enabled) between them motor, drive mechanism, and seatback, right ?

If so then the fact that you can hear the motor running rules out the module in my mind. I suppose you could verify this by listening to motor at end of travel on their working passenger side.

Ah, knowing everyone here is bet you get an answer from someone with experience soon. I'm just trying to help Good luck with it. John

Not being sarcastic but are you sure your pushing the right button? It sounds more like your pushing the headrest button and the head rests always make a noise and not move until you fix them. Try the same button on the passenger seat to make sure your doing the right one.

If in fact you are pushing the right button, something's disconnected under the seat. Pull the seat and inspect the cables. I think you'll find one disconnected or broken.

Actually the button for the head rest is the same for the recliner and it appears the recliner motor does not run.... Thanks Frank C! However still same issue, how to tell if I need a module or need a motor. All other functions work but they are different motors for headrest and seat adjustment (forward and back)

In order to prove condition of the module you remove the working passenger module and install it in the drivers seat. If it corrects the problem the module needs repair. If it proves to be bad let me know and I can give you Darrell Turners info for repairs. He is the go to guy for theses module repairs.
By the way both the drivers and passenger modules are identical.

No problem. Hope you get it sorted. Swapping the modules is a good idea.

Does the seat recline in one direction but not the other? Do you hear any relay clicks when you operate the switch?

I understand they are outrageously expensive, if available at all. Your best bet is a repair. Some forum members can fix those for a small fee.

I have used Module Master before. I let the customer send the module and pay for repairs. I just remove and replace the unit for them if they don't feel confident doing it themselves.
