Smoke when starting, lean codes on Banks 1 & 2
I've noticed that when the car sits for an hour or two after driving, it puts out a fairly big cloud of blue smoke from the tailpipes, then nothing (also, it passed State inspection). In the past, I would think that that would indicate worn intake valve seals, but it doesn't do it after backing off in gear. Also, I wouldn't think that would be the case with only 58,000 miles. Anyone else run into this?
The second part of this is that I just started up the car to drive home, stepped hard on the gas, and it felt like the engine died temporarily and the dreaded "Restricted Performance" appeared. I checked the codes and they indicated a lean condition in Banks 1 & 2. Anyone know what might cause this? The car had been run for an hour or so previously with no indication of a problem.
Thanks in advance.

Lean on banks 1 & 2
Not knowing if your car's air intake (from filter to throttle body) is the same as mine, but I started to get an engine light and a code a number of times recently, which indicated a lean condition.
On looking the engine area over real close, I noticed that the outer ridges (where the tube is made to look like an according (sp?)) the edges were split--I guess from age---allowing air to enter the tube after the MAF, causing a real lean condition. After repairing with electrical tape (because it stretches) the condition ended-- so far, hopfully until I can get a new one. So far the cheapest one I've found is $125----thus the delay.
Maybe that will help you.

Thanks Chuck, certainly worth checking out, especially since the underside of that duct is a bit difficult to see. I haven't started the car yet today to see if the same codes pop up, but based on the experience of others on the forum, I fully expect them to.
I re-considered by question on the initial smoking when the car is started, and came to the conclusion that it is most likely a valve seal issue. The mileage is low (58,000), but the age is going on 15 years, and with significant experience with rubber products on previous Jags, one can expect the worst.

The problem turned out to be relatively simple once I started thinking about it. The car was low on gas and parked on a moderate incline. I hit the gas hard to try and make a light, and I'm theorizing that the fuel sloshed to the back of the tank momentarily allowing the fuel pump to very briefly suck a bit of air. I just finished driving it fairly hard under a variety of circumstances without a problem.
Still haven't figured out the blue smoke when starting after sitting, but at least we'll have a few less mosquitoes in my yard.
Hope this helps someone avoid spending a lot of time looking for a vacuum leak.

I won't open the champagne just yet. Interestingly enough, up until now the only code I've ever consistently gotten was a pending P1000, which only shows up on my Torque program and doesn't seem to have an impact on performance. Haven't researched that one yet, but I think I saw a recent thread on it.

It's well worth reading about P1000 such as first 10 or so pages of codes PDF, previous threads and all about OBD monitors (even google would be a start).
If you don't get P1111 after a few warm ups go hunting for other people's posts about that as there is a ton of good info in those threads. You'll be days on here if you need this info reposting.
