Default Are these shocks a bad idea?

I was just browsing Ebay for new springs fo rmy car and found a whole set of replacement shocks and springs. The top mounts in the front have been repalced with a solid mount as well. Any thoughts JAGUAR XK8 XKR X100 FRONT REAR EIBACH LOWERING SPRINGS SPORT XJR SUSPENSION KIT | eBay Naturally you wouldn't get the CATS system to work though. I have seen a lot of bad things being said about modern Bilstein shock quality these days. Which made me think of looking elsewhere? It's also cheaper then going with OEM.

Stiffer springs and solid mounts sounds like something I personally would hate. But that is just my opinion

Well I wanted softer shocks if anything. I guess I will keep looking at the OEM bilsteins then.

What kind of solid front upper shock mounts do you have? Many years ago a forum member made a set out of hard plastic cutting boards, and another forum member had a set designed and cut from a steel plate. They never reported back regarding how well their solutions worked, however....

Mine are OEM. Just that everyone says the OEM design is pretty poor but no one has an alternative apart from using poly bushes in them. Which isn't ideal. OEM is probably just the best we have I think.

I have no complaints about OEM except for the cost . When I changed mine in 2019, the shock on one side had just started to move off-centre, and the ride height was 1/4" off-spec. If the new ones last another 22 years I'll be happy.

Sadly, we don't have a cjd777 on our side of the Atlantic

I have seen some rear poly bushes for the top mounts for our cars. JAGUAR XK8 X100 X308 XJ8 X300 REAR SHOCK ABSORBER SUSPENSION BUSHING BUFFER POLY | eBay But I don't think the ride comfort will be all that nice with them. I will probably just go with OEM shocks and the spring set from Adamesh. Adamesh sell the R performance package shocks with CATS or without, I'm not really sure which ones I have but I have the leather gearknob with the R badge on it so I suppose I have the R-package.

As a reminder, do not waste your time and money on any shock mounts from URO. Their lifespan is typically measured in months, not years....

Is the Eurospare part from Moss Europe any good? Mounting, shock absorber, front, top, Eurospare (moss-europe.co.uk)

I wouldn't buy them. My OCD doesn't like the rivets not being flush with the top a la OEM. Don't know how they hold up in practice.
If you do, then run a die down the threads to remove the paint. I've read of more than one instance of sheared bolts on assembly.

If you have wires connected to the top of the shocks then you have CATS.

I agree with you about poly. Good name for a parrot but not so good on a car, IMO

What part do you recomend getting that is OEM quality. It would be nice if I could get ones that would also last 20 years.

Wayne's (cjd777) custom-designed shock mounts continue to prove to be the best on the market now. The many forum members who have installed them are extremely happy with their quality and durability. I realize that shipping charges from the US to the UK could be an issue and you do need to ship your cores to him....

I'd read so many bad things about just about everything else that I just sucked it up and went OEM.

I paid just short of £260 for the pair in 2019, but there have been some scary price rises since then. They're now £330, or ~£400 if you have to pay VAT.

Painful.

I just replaced my front springs and shock mounts, ride height is 15 5/8 but right side started out 1/4 higher, I’ll check alignment soon. But I can’t find torque for wheel lugs, where did I see it?
