Anyone here own this particular scanner:

for the money, and what it claims to be able to scan for, it sounds almost too good to be true.
So what do ya'all think?

Not sure if I even need to own my own scanner yet, until I find out if my local foreign car repair joint has a scanner that will pick up my ABS codes. he said to bring the car by and he'll plug his in and try it, no charge. he says some Jags are hard to scan for ABS and TCM codes. here in PoDunk we have no authorized Jag dealers.

Sounds great but it is nothing but software.

Enginuity wrote the first Jaguar version several years ago at $500, ELM then wrote firmware that handled the OBD standard but not the Jaguar extended code set for free.

It won't be long before everything is either a free or $5 smart phone app.

 

Did you look at the photos and description in the listing?

Sounds like more that just software to me.

Have you tried the free TORQUE app?

 

Nope.

 

I've got Torque (both the free and paid for versions), and also have AutoEnginuity (with the Jaguar 'add on', as well as ad-ons for a couple of our other vehicles)

Torque is great for generic codes (i.e. those mandated by the Feds), and for resetting DCS, but it's not much good at diagnostics for other more propriety systems. I keep a bluetooth/OBD adapter in the glove box for use with Torque (mainly reading codes for friends and colleagues), but find AutoEnginuity invaluable for non-emissions related faults (one good example recently - identifying which TPS had failed on my truck, info not available via Torque). I will say the software is a little 'funky' sometimes; often have to connect to the vehicle twice before it recognizes I have the license for the manufacturer specific stuff, but once it's working it is great.

Looking at the Ebay description for this unit, it does look like it can read codes and values from almost all the Jaguar systems (just like AutoEnginuity), but I'd really want to hear from someone who has it before putting down my own cash - though at that price it might be worth a gamble....so who's goes first?! :-)

Edit - just found this link. I suspect this unit might be pretty good; but I wish they had shown it actually reading some of the PIDs from the car....

Interesting, I will be waiting with bated breath to hear how it performs.
I tried, but never could justify the $$$ for the Autoenginuity for Jaguar which seems to be the gold standard around these parts.

 

Can it fix coolant leaks?... 😊

Well…. it does say it comes with plugs, so…..

I'll review here in a couple days, after I get the scanner and try it out on my own car. I do have a few "issues" that will provide testing opportunities

Looking forwards to hearing about this, I am fed up with the poor quality and poor support from AutoEnginuity. They sold me the current update for $50 which does not work and are offering no solution to the problem.


It is £100 delivered in the UK, and if I get my $50 back from AE the really just £68 outlay.

 

I'm down with it. My airbag just came on (I'll be posting a thread) and the Torque app seems to be blissfully unaware of it. Might be the cheapest impulse buy I've made in a long time.

 

I got fed up with AutoEnginuity as well. Got a JLR Mongoose.

 

If this thing can take real-time measurements of the Jag-specific PID's such as trans fluid temp, AIT2 temp, engine oil temp, etc in addition to stuff that Torque can measure then I'll buy one.

 

Hi Race, dont forget customs charges and shipping, from the US they are ALWAYS added.

Comes to $200 in total which on todays exchange is £136.50 or near enough. Still not bad for a decent unit.

 

I'll make myself a note to specifically check for that when I try it out.
