only the 1998 versions have one, from 1999 there is no drain plug anymore.

I did the trans service on a local member's 2000 MY XKR and the drain plug was in the torque converter. I got nearly 10 liters of JLM20292 fluid back in the W5A580.

I don't know when the drain was deleted.

I just had this service done including the connector. I researched this drain plug issue. Most everyone says there's no drain plug on the 2000 XKR. But I did find a few people that said they had found one and used it. The guy that did mine said there was no plug. Don't pay a lot for the electrical connector. The dealer said $75.00 for the part. The exact same part is available for under $10.00 on most internet sites or at german auto parts stores or even Dodge dealers. That transmission is in a lot of cars.

Default tranny plug

I changed my tranny fluid a year ago (2001 XKR 722.6 box and 50K miles) and found no drain plug. Which is a pain as you can only get about 4-5qts out. So as I bought a case of 12Qts fluid on amazon for $60 and cycled the fluid 3 times. I also changed the elec connector and filter. I was lucky as I had the cat converters out to change all O2 sensors so replacing the elec connector was easy.

Traditionally MB had drain plug in torque converter, so chances are W5A580 should have one. I am planning to drain generic ATF+4 that I replaced in 4 drain and refills via transmission pan. So this time I will try to find torque converter drain and let you know. I have 8 qts of Amsoil fluid that I want to use as permanent.

@Bob,
I also don't know the exact cutoff date, it was somewhere in 1999, could even be mid to late 1999. I know of 2 1999 models that didn't have it anymore (forgot to note the vins).
You are the first one mentioning a 2000 model still has one, what was the vin number, and re you sure it wasn't a replacement TC ?

Also note that the model year can be different in Europe and the US. A '99 in GB may well be a '00 in the US. That's why you can see a car manufactured in April listed as the next MY over here.
