Default Tow eye source, 20 mm

Need a 20 mm tow eye for my 2003 XK 8. I have a 16MM and it is too small (MUCH). The VIN sequence indicates very early (Mgf. date 6/02), perhaps "in run" change to 16mm from the original 20mm. Motorman advised he only had the 16mm so that's out. anyone have suggestions rather than dealer or salvage yard? S-Type eye on E-bay but no size listed. Anyone had any other models XK,XJS,? that would carry the 20mm??

The S-Type is the same M16 X 3.0 LH thread.

I've had the same problem with my 2003.5 XK8 convertible.
I've found the correct M20 in a crashed 1998 XK8.
Hope will help.

Cheers

Anyone know other Jaguar models or autos that use the 20mm tow eye?

Default Tow hook

I bought a 4 inch 20mm bolt and had an eye welded on it. Works great, total cost $15.00. I have a 2001 XK8.

These are available on ebay or your local boat yard, & should do the job.

The bolt is a 20mm right hand thread. I welded an eyelet on the end of the bolt. I used a 4 inch long bolt. I put a clevis on the eyelet. Works great
I tried to upload a picture, email me if you want me to send you a picture.

UPDATE: The tow eye problem is resolved. Called Fastenall and ordered a 20mm x 2.5 x 110mm RHT hex bolt. Cost $8. went to local Tractor Supply and picked up a 1/2" screw pin clevis. cost $7+. Will machine 2 flats on the bolt after the Hex is removed. Viola! Correct Tow Eye less than $20.

Default New Tow Eye Available

Dear Jag owners,
I have a 2000 XK8 and it needs the M20X2.5mm tow eye.

What I found out is our need is the same as the Mazda models 2,5,6 and RX8, as well as the Suzuki Swift.

So instead of paying a lot ($40-100) for something that looks like this:

Standard hook

You can get this one that works perfectly for $17.00

Modern tow eye

Just search Ebay for NEW-NEO-CHROME-RACING-TOW-TOWING-HOOK-SCREW-ALUMINUM-T2-FOR-MAZDA-2-5-6-RX-8-CNC

I hope this helps keep your Jag from being damaged the next time you need a tow.

Cheers

Alternate for OEM Tow Eye
Just tried the E-Bay (China) item obtained for $15 incl. S&H. It is aluminum and comes in different colors. The thread size is 20 mm X 2.5mm RHT and fit very early 2003 and back. The later 2003 and fwd use the 16mm X 2.5mm LHT, I have extra later type obtained from motorcarman if anyone needs it. Enclosed is a link and info from the site. The item fits excellent and is listed for Mazda 2,etc. It took some research to located the large size needed for the early cars and no one lists Jaguar on their fit list. Hope this is some help for early owners.

NOTE:

The later Tow Eyes are M16 X 3.0 LHT. Same as VW and Audi cars.

Confirmed, my '03 4.2 is also fitted with the older 20mm x 2.5 RHT. Apparently the same as a Mazda 2 5 6. These after market hooks are now down to $11 on eBay. Got it delivered today. Not sure about the design with all those threaded parts, but if seems good enough for an emergency, I suppose. Worth spending a few minutes test fitting it and freshen those threads. Or not and do it in the rain/snow while waiting for the truck...

I was also successful fitting the Mazda tow eye to my 2000 XKR. Inexpensive, and seems sturdy enough. Inexpensive enough that I bought two, to be sure.
