Default In the USA, can orig selling dealer be located?

Based on the carfax on my car I can see city and state of where the car was sold. Anyway to figure out the dealer? My car changed hands 2x before I got it and appears to have been at Jag dealers perhaps. Any way to get more specifics to the dealers name??

Call Jaguar USA at 800-452-4827 with your VIN in hand. They will be able to tell you who your car's original selling dealer was....

I have to assume they can not tell me any service done? The first owner had it 2 years, the 2nd 9 years. That is the one I am interested in, There was a Computer reprogram while he owned it. There was a recall on the trans and that was a fix, wanted to confirm if that is what was done. I called my dealer, there are no current open recalls.

Jaguar USA has a database of warranty repairs and/or any repairs billed thru the warranty processing system. Any Jag dealer can access that data.

However there is no common data base of service history between dealers and/or corporate Jaguar for other types of work. IOW, if the car was worked on by 10 different Jag dealers, and the billing didn't touch corporate Jaguar in any way, other Jag dealers and corporate Jaguar would not have any record of it.

Carfax (or other similar history service) might or might not have history...if the car was serviced at shops that actually subscribed and reported to the service. Not all dealers and repair shops do.

Cheers
DD

I know here in SoCal that there have been at least 3 dealers that have closed. I assume that their service records are no longer available.

I was able to piece together the service history of both of our Jaguars by tracking down where they lived, then calling the Jaguar dealerships in those areas and providing my VIN. I always asked to speak with the service manager directly, explained my situation, and was provided the details I was looking for....

My S-Type was easy since it was leased new in Fort Lauderdale, FL and stayed there throughout its three-year corporate lease, always being serviced by the same dealership. But my wife's XK8 was sold new in Los Angeles, then moved to Hilton Head SC, then moved to Jacksonville FL, so I had to piece together information from five or six dealerships....

So you can indeed assemble an accurate service history. You just need to know where your car has lived prior to you purchasing it....

Well I have where it was purchased by owner # 1 and city and state, also for owner 2 though I can't say if that is a dealer but since the computer was reprogrammed (I think for a trans recall issue) it was prob a dealer that did his service work, oddly at the tail end of his ownership carfax shows a SERVICE CONTRACT issued by Service Plan Co. out of Hammond LA. I looked a little online for it but did not find it yet.

Prior to my purchase of preowned 2004 XJ8, Jaguar dealership ran me a Direct Dealer Warranty - Vehicle Details report which lists original seller with details of vehicle, warranty coverages, open field service actions, claimed field service actions, original owner/driver details ( should be redacted), warranty, referrals, features, trim details, serial numbers and aftermarket fits
