shock mounts
Just did this and you must remove the paint on the studs. I had one break while using a speed wrench. Go ahead and order shocks, the bushing will be shoot if they haven't been replaced. Removing the ball joint makes for a much easier job when you are putting the top A arm bushings and spacers back together.

Plan to replace the upper control arm bushings also.
Thought about replacing the lower shock bushing but that bad boy is way expensive. Do new shocks come with the bushing?

No, just take it off the upright with a splitter if you have to, but a air hammer on the stud pops it right out, just keep the nut on covering the threads.

Here is a write up I did on mine and Yes the new shocks have new bushings installed.

Cdj777, thanks again. That is what I had planned. Just looked and my lower ball joint on the passenger side has a split boot, may have to replace it.
Car drives great, no shimmy, no noise, no pull however on a rough road or hit a bump and the whole steering column shacks violently. Shocks seam OK, very tight and no bounce. Just got the car with 86K on it. Per service records the sway bar bushings were replaced 3K ago.
Figured I'd start with the upper shock mounts and upper control arm bushings as it has to come off anyway and see how it handles from there. Shocks aren't that expensive so may go ahead and replace them at the same time.

motorcars ltd carrys the rebuild kits and also the stock upper mount . they also sell a retrofit kit for switching to stock shocks everything completly assembled{may have to call for that} . the kit for 4 wheels was like 1800 am wondering if you call them can maybe get the front only for like 900. seeing that shocks are 120 ish the mounts 200 apiece the boots about 12 thats 332 a shock to rebuild your getting a new spring and no laber to take apart and reinstall the mount. just a thought.
